Depends. His salary is unguaranteed, so if we can use him in a nice little trade before the 30th I'd love that (some sort of trade where the receiving team needs a little more salary).
I'm not going to riot if he's on the roster on opening day, though.

No - we paid a mid-second rounder to acquire him, the possibilities with that pick would have been endless.

Re: Should We Give Jon Leuer a Chance Before Hanging?
Why not
1) Stuck behind Zac Randolph
2) Big men are notorious for progressing slowly in the NBA
3) Fills the stretch 4 role we need
4) Has three years of playoff experience
5) Practiced daily against Gasol and Randolph
I'd much prefer Leuer than Andrew Harrison

That appears to be the case. All of his highlights are from this past year, minus us. What do we have better on the roster at coming off of the bench? Sliding not so good 3's down to 4's.........see Marcus Morris.
Edit: You can't say he doesn't look good!

Looks like a possibly solid bench player to me. I think its a good move.

Re: Should We Give Jon Leuer a Chance Before Hanging?
Like others have said
He looks bouncy, he has a high release on his shot.
He won't be anything more than a backup big man who can stretch the floor at best and hit some shots, but he doesn't look like a softie either which is nice.
I just don't understand the need to trade for him really. We're not competing for a title right now, bar some miracle we get Aldridge or Love, even then we're probably not competing for the title.
So why trade away a draft pick that could turn into a better player than Leuer to settle for a guy like Leuer?

Because McD want a heterogeneous group of players........Every player can't be a superstar or boom or bust diaper dandy.

3rd string big man that can stretch the floor, nothing to see here. It's like when we signed Tolliver.

Probably because he torched Kieff last year and will push him to get better in practice.
And yes, we're talkin' bout practice here.

I don't get the hate in trading a late 2nd round pick for a guy who can at least contribute in some fashion as the 9-10th guy.

Same here, who did we miss out on exactly? We have a bunch of young guys, and I don't think a mid second rounder would have made the rotation.
But while we are on the topic of bigs, how is Len doing?

Re: Should We Give Jon Leuer a Chance Before Hanging?
Someone said that his playing style reminds them of Gugliotta. I would tend to agree. Not that he is at that level, but he is that type of player. Aggressive, active, shooter from all over not just the three. I don't see the rebounding.
Hey, we have enough really younguns. We might as well get one that may be right at the point of really contributing. I would rather have this guy than Alec Brown.
He is 6-11 with a 7-0 wing span.

Seconded.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

If we keep Jon, it makes Alec redundant. I'm still wondering if he can continue to play for the Jam while we hold on to his draft rights? No one has answered my questions about retaining draft rights to a player not on salary in the DLeague. If we can, why not get a bunch of second rounders, keep their rights, and let them develop in a similar system to ours.

Re: Should We Give Jon Leuer a Chance Before Hanging?
Leuer isn't a bad guy to have at the end of the bench, but I would have liked to have used that pick on a young guy who could maybe be better than Leuer one day.
Heck...I didn't even mind the Harrison pick, since we would finally have a real point guard on the roster again.

Re: Should We Give Jon Leuer a Chance Before Hanging?
I wrote this horrible pun-riddled fantasy piece on Leuer when he went through this hot streak in 2013, dude was getting minutes and producing - no denying it.
I think he's a good citizen who is a legit 6-9 - 6'10 who can make a 3 and crash the boards for 15-20 mins each night, basically what we wanted Tolliver for last year? Plus he's only just turned 26 so he could be a relatively young vet as this will be his fifth season and he's experienced the playoffs three straight years with Memphis.

Re: Should We Give Jon Leuer a Chance Before Hanging?
Personally I'd have tried to move up to get Harrell, I think he would have been exactly the rebounder/energy guy we needed off the bench...

He looks like a solid bench player for us. And who knows, maybe he'll turn into Miles Plumlee when he first got here.

Anyone else think this may have been the big man from Wisconsin that McD was targeting. We were all so wrong...
