Dave Hopla

Post#1 » by DETermination » Fri Jun 26, 2015 2:38 am

Welcome our new shooting coach Dave Hopla. Hopefully he is the man who can get Drummond to shoot 50 percent from the free throw line lol!

Dave Hopla is the greatest shooter in the world in an empty court. Dude is amazing. Great hire by SVG.

I believe Hopla was a big reason why John Wall improved his jumper as much as he did. I think he will be great for all of our players.

Love this addition for so many reasons, the evolution of Reggie's and Stanimal's shots...
As well as Stan saying that first order of business is he's attaching Dave to Andre out in Cali next week lol

Dave Hopla is great. I went to several clinics of his while I was growing up, and he really knows proper shooting technique and is a good coach.

Unfortunately, I'm still a dreadful shooter, but I believe in Hopla. Great hire.

Maybe Hopla should help Stafford too.

Glad they finally found their shooting coach. I hope the Pistons players are receptive to his teaching, as some of them need to re-work their mechanics quite a bit, and deploy his teachings.

After watching tons of videos on Hopla I really believe he is going to be huge for this team. A hiring that nobody really is talking about but it could lead to not only improving Drummond shooting but everyone's shooting on the team. The guy is a great shooter and great teacher and can really get this team shooting well.

More than anything, he'll bring consistency. He's the shooting coach, you listen to him about shooting. Too often, everybody has an opinion and players try to listen to everyone - and are quick to abandon things when it's going poorly early on.

I believe free throws are mostly mental. Dre looks defeated even before he gets to the line. Also I think players feel the pressure of all eyes being on them and the ego on the line if they miss and the pressure gets to them. When you shoot in the game it's in the flow of the game and more a reaction than having to think and stew about it like what happens with free throws. These guys shoot enough free throws that they should be able to hit it with their eyes closed from muscle memory alone.

 This amused me to no end. Let's hope he has a better effect on the Pistons...

great signing, and just further shows us that SVG's plan is on a grand scale and further shows Gores' commitment to improving the franchise.

if I remember reading before, Hopla will be travelling with the team and his one and only job is to coach shooting. Even when he's watching games, he's watching the way player's shoot in certain situations and making notes.

he's also spending a few days with Drummond next week, hopefully that lays the groundwork for andre's long summer of shooting free throws. the goal is 50%!

The Raptors had Hopla on the roster back in 06-07. That was the same year we finally made the playoffs since the Carter era and he helped a lot of our players become better at shooting.

He'll be a great addition for you guys. I wish we still had him.
