Re: "Flat Out Boring": The Frank Kaminsky Thread
we dont have to play Biz regular minutes, but having him as a defensive sub at the end of games would be great. who else will be our defensive sub at C? Zeller? i dont trust that, he doesn't have the length to contest shots or the strength to keep true centers off the glass in those situations. the only way i'll be ok with Biz walking if someone offers him way too much money.

I'm beginning to have a little more faith in the Kaminsky pick, but only if we let Big Al go after this season or even earlier if possible.
You sir are correct. Kaminsky is insurance for Al and or Zeller and that's why I think it was a better pick than adding a MKG clone in Winslow that we would've been forced to play or hear fans bitch about him not playing to add onto our shooting woes.

So our terrible defense that you're lamenting was league average. This is the perspective that I find baffling. We've been like bottom five in offensive team stats for years.
We'll be fine defensively. It's been forever since we've been close to fine offensively
What does an average defense and average offense get you? An average team... If we don't maintain an elite defense then we have to be a great offensive team. I don't think there is much chance of us being a great offensive team with this roster and our coach, so we have to have an elite defense. We have to balance out our roster with defense to stay elite on that end. We have absolutely seen that our defense can suffer without the right personnel. We don't have some kind of magical defensive scheme that works great no matter what. I'm a bit surprised that what I am saying is controversial.

When Frank averages 13/7/2ast/1blk a game and the Hornets go 50-32, people will forget about Winslow and his clank a thon shots.

I love Biz and want him on this team. I wouldn't even mind him as a starter if we had a superstar scoring wing but we don't right now.
So until then Biz don't necessarily deserve regular minutes on this roster unless he prove to at least be a better scorer than Festus Ezeli.
I honestly would put Biz on the floor before Zeller who can't score worth a shiznit either and make Zeller the 3rd big but I know that won't happen.
Biz is fresh off a season of having a 15.2 PER so he's getting there.

More like 44-38 but I totally agree with your thinking.

I so hope you guys are right. Kemba, Batum/Lamb, MKG, Kaminsky, Biz/Zeller, seems like a sweet lineup. Looks like a top 5 defense to me and I think thats better offensively than our first unit last season. If Kaminsky can be super McBob on offense and have someone next to him to make up for his defense then he could really help us.

I want to keep Biz as much as the next guy, but I keep seeing the same points about how we have to keep an elite rim protector etc etc...I feel like the point that yosimite is trying to make, and the point Ive been trying to make with people, is what have we lost rim protection wise? You say if we dont maintain an elite defense, but it has been proven over the last couple years that by crowding the paint and limiting transition we absolutely do not NEED an elite rim protector. We still have the same people protecting the rim as we had last year for the vast majority of the season, and they did quite well according to our defensive ratings.
Look at it this way, we had a top 5 defense last year and we essentially replaced Maxiell and Vonleh with Hawes and Kaminsky...is that really that big of a downgrade for the next couple years? Id love to have Biz back but the fact is he was not on the floor the majority of the time and is not a NECESSARY component of an elite defense.
So basically we lost nothing defensively yet added what will be IMO a ton offensively. Love or hate the system but the team we have this year is built for Cliffs system...its time for him to put up or shut up and on paper we are a MUCH improved team for his system.
I also dont really get the whole "Mortgaging our future to win now" kick everyone seems to be on...Hawes, who is at best a role player, is the oldest guy weve acquired at 27...the same age as Henderson....whatever, thats a whole nother tangent : P

He isn't Cho's guy he is Clifford and Jordan's guy. I still believe Cho would have made a good pick if we did not have a terrible coach.

Exactly. Everyone has all but confirmed it was basically a Jordan pick.
I'm ok with the pick regardless now. Not thrilled, but it is what it is.

Cho should resign if he's not making the personnel decisions and putting his reputation/resumé at stake. I actually thought the abrupt resignation of Rod Higgins would clear things up
Either way, that doesn't matter in this scenario because I think Cho made the right pick. Justise Winslow would've been more redundant on this roster than Frank Kaminsky without fixing #spacing

I'm slowly leaning towards that way of thinking

I actually live about half an hour away in Cocoa but I'm a big OCSC supporter for sure....Originally from NC which explains the rest of my teams ha.

It was a dumb pick but the guy will be an ok player. Pisses me off that we have given up on being a really good team and are going with barely playoffs again. Why worry about the future when you can be mediocre for one year. Seems so very shortsighted.

Definitely a Cho pick and of course Jordan would be excited about it after Cho sold him on it for months and it being the right pick. Winslow woulda backed up MKG and played about 15-20 minutes a game while shooting 20% on 3s for us. Lol
