Why don't you like Winslow?
Winslow is a 2 in the NBA but he can't shoot and has no handle. His shooting mechanics are terrible and he has no range on his shot, he failed to hit an NBA three all season. This isn't a disputed point but if you don't believe me, this is from his draftexpress profile:
Winslow was considered a mediocre shooter coming into college, as he made just 26 of the 86 [30%] 3-pointers he attempted in 1900 minutes and 82 games in the many events (FIBA, EYBL, Adidas Nations, etc) he participated in prior to Duke that we have on record.
His game relies heavily on power, which probably won't work quite as well in the NBA, where lowering your shoulder and bulldozing through the lane doesn't get the same results as it does in college. Developing his in-between game will help, as will quickening the speed of his release and showing he can translate his somewhat flat shot to the longer distances of the NBA 3-point line.
Winslow shot 40% from the field and 31% from three when Okafor wasn't on the floor. When Okafor was on the floor, he had open shots all day.
Shooting: Winslow’s already shown to be a capable shooter, and actually leads Duke in three-point shooting at nearly 42%. But it is fair to wonder how he’ll perform in a system that provides less open shots, since he’s enjoyed ample spacing with all the double-teams Okafor commands. His figures dip quite a bit when he’s not playing alongside the All-America center—from 45% behind the arc and 52% overall down to just 31% from three and 40% overall. And he’s struggled mightily at the elbow, where he’d frequently get the ball in the triangle, shooting just 18% (8-of-45) from there, per Shot Analytics. (The Knicks handle the ball on the elbow an NBA-high 32 times a game, according to SportVU.) Winslow’s jump-shot inconsistency is similar to that of ex-Knick Iman Shumpert’s in that the nature of his misses—with air balls, or shots that miss the rim altogether—is more troubling than the actual percentage he shoots. Additionally, his 63% mark at the line is subpar for someone at his position.
http://www.wsj.com/articles/will-there-ever-be-justise-for-the-knicks-1428095059I didn't someone at #4 who is going to be extremely inefficient on offense, can't shoot, and can't create his own shot. He'll be a good defender but he doesn't even have the speed and length to be an elite defender. Whenever he wasn't getting his points in college, his defensive effort was questionable. And finally, he started to play really well when he was put at PF because college 4s couldn't keep up with him, he's not playing PF in he NBA.
I really didn't get all the hype around him before the draft and I said he belonged in the 8-14 range, which is where he went. Plenty of guys win national championships and turn out to be nothing. He's not on the same level as Mario as a prospect and it's a toss up between him and Stanley Johnson. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when we didn't take him.
