I've always been big on Monta. He has his flaws, but he's a legit #2 that has proven he can play both guard positions in a free flowing offense and still get his.
I feel even better about him on the knicks b/c we have big defensive guards that can play next to him in Schved and Grant.Gallo would also make a nice pairing with him.
However, teams like Boston are getting desperate. NY will and should splurge on a big---and Monta(b/c of a bidding war) may not come in on the $10-$13mil contract that we can afford after a max deal is signed(unless we dump Jose).

this will likely be has last big payday.

Ellis gives us Guard overload unless we move Calderon, who Dallas may want back honestly.

I still think we need a perimeter defender in the rotation as well. Rather roll with Shved over Monta at a major fraction of the price. Let Ledo develop as well. Sign Middleton(Bucks drafted Rashad Vaughn) and then use the rest of the money on the Frontcourt.

Yes, it's Middleton over Monta all day. both those guys are legit #2's, elite #3's.

Definetly have to get rid of Jose if we get Monta. But I would choose MOnta over Calderon---and then get another vet pt guard on a vet min.

However, I think it's not either or with Schved. I'm higher on him than most. Schved/Middleton---Schved/Monta---Schved/Grant---those are all great backcourts(once Grant gets some experience).
Gallo just adds to the excellence that we could have subbing in for Schved or vice versa.

If the Knicks strike out on a big free agent, would a temporary solution suffice.

Knicks trade:
Caldron

Golden State Trades:

David Lee
Marreese Speights
Shaun Livingston
Festus Ezeli
2016 First Rounder

We should demand they include klay while we are out of it. Clearly you are very confused on calderon's value

the knicks need to go all in on marc. he is essential, and he's going to make the transition between the melo era and possibly the zingy era (if we get that far) easier for both. I'm not concerned with getting anyone else at this point.

Your are not a bright man or woman, because Golden State gets from under the cap with this deal and this will allows them to sign Draymond Green at the Max. The Knicks are giving them relief, but it is going to cost them a bit. All of the Golden State players are on one year contracts, which would allow the knicks to get from under Caldron 2016 contract (Simple, Simple).

There was talk of the Blazers giving him 12+ per year earlier in the season because he was so important to their early success. In fact, they started to really struggle when he got injured. I don't think they will do that now that LMA is gone. I would rather give him 25 million over 3 years than maxing out DeAndre.

Robin Lopez is certainly a "stay in your lane" type player. I like DeAndre and I think that he has more of an offensive game than he gets credit for. Right now, he is relegated to roll/dunk man, but he wants to be a post player. Rare.

anyone have defensive metrics on Ellis??

If I'm not mistaken, Galloway was one of the best on ball defenders in terms of analytics in the NBA last season.. not surprising. he's smart, super long and moves his feet well.. I hope he sees a boost in minutes. Love his game as a role player.

I wouldn't mind making a play for Monroe bass and Ellis as long as we have Galloway starting in the backcourt with him to take the more difficult defensive assignment. Think that gives us good balance but doesn't break the bank either. Bass has some underrated skills of lateral quickness and strength on defense while being able to hit the mid range jumpshot. He also isn't a "full-time" starter so KP can get plenty of minutes behind him.

I always thought Bass was gonna take that David West step but he's still super effective in a role. He's tough, high IQ, good glass man. Starter? Not sure now I feel about that but he's definitely a guy that's gonna be effective in 20-25 minutes on the court on both ends.

I can only imagine the nightmares teams would have facing a front court that consists of Marc Gasol and Kris Porzingis. It's a big if, but Phil seems like he's been talking to Pau Gasol recently, and I believe Pau would've came to the Knicks if Phil had a little more money to work with last year, but he and Phil I think can do a great job selling him on what we could have if he came here.

Also, people are severely underrating what a healthy scoring Carmelo Anthony can do for this team when he's back. Honestly, we haven't seen what he can really do in the offense and he was injured right at the beginning of the season and just played it out.

Anyone thinking Marc Gasol wants to come to the Knicks needs to take their meds. He's NOT EVEN INTERESTED in a crappy team that drafted a good kid who won't be ready for 4-5 yrs.

The Knicks need to bring in Rajon Rondo on a 1 year deal at a decent price now that LA shut him out. Rondo will play harder now that he has a rep as a cancer in Dallas. Melo will shut up now that someone will feed him.

Then the Knicks need to find defense, I'd trade for Hibbert's player option/expiring $15M that will provide defense and some post. Local kid will excite the team.

Bring Rondo and Hibbert will dull the scoring against the Knicks.

Couldn't be a more terrible offseason than that.

I hate Hibbert and still would be enticed depending on what the Pacers would attach to his deal, but Roy is even less of a "local kid" than Michael Jordan. He was raised and grew up in Maryland.

Even as badly as we want defense, I don't want Hibbert anywhere near this team. Just remembering those stat lines he put up in the playoffs reminds me too much of how useless Kendrick Perkins is in the NBA especially in today's game in which teams will literally play a shooter at the 5 to make Roy even less effective. Weak rebounder and he isn't good enough on offense to make teams pay for going small.

If you guys believe that the New York media destroys careers, wait till they can sink their teeth into Roy Hibbert after he has a 0 pts and 0 boards game in 25 minutes of play.

I wonder if this "every man involved" on the offense is something that would perk Jordan's interests, given his comments about wanting to be more involved in the offense. If he were to come to NYC, the team makes that turn towards relevancy again with him playing well, and we are true to getting him more involved, he could be an all-star for sure.

I know a lot of you don't like the idea of him, but I would absolutely LOVE to have Jordan anchoring KRISTAPS and Melo from the paint.
