Pistons interested in Batum before trade to Hornets

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Sun Jun 28, 2015 12:18 pm

Sorry if it's been posted. Personally, I'm glad we didn't make a move for him involving the 8.

Batum was traded from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday. The Pistons had expressed interest in Batum before the deal, according to person with knowledge of the organization's inner workings who declined to speak publicly because of the sensitive nature of off-season maneuvering.

Obviously, the Hornets' package of shooting guard Gerald Henderson and power forward Noah Vonleh enticed the Blazers to make the move.

The Pistons' interest shows that their efforts to acquire a starting-caliber small forward are underway. And with the team open to trading down from the No. 8 pick in tonight's NBA draft, you get the idea that the return of the right small forward could be enough to get them to move down.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

When you think about the skillset Batum has then look at who we drafted...it fits.

There is no SF available in free agency witha Swiss Army knife skillset like Batum though

I do recall Batum being mentioned by a few people a while ago...so they should be happy SVG obviously views some things the way they do

I like him as a player, but he got hurt, had an off year, and he's a rental. Just would rather have the potential and cheap years of Johnson or even Vonleh for that matter. Don't know what Charlotte was thinking.

I'm not in love with the Johnson pick and would easily flip KCP for somoene better. That said, Id rather have both of those guys than Batum, Charlotte got fleeced. You don't give up value for someone who had an injury filled and below average season

KCP and 8 for Batum who is on his last year of his contract and played like steaming **** last season?

Portland embarrassed itself worse than Boston offering trash first rounders for Noel and #3

If Detroit really likes Batum, they can go after him next summer. I doubt Batum will be in a rush to re-sign with the Bobcats in 12 months.

No way for a rental of Batum who's likely to just bolt for greener pastures.

Charlotte got fleeced since Vonleh was showing potential as a young asset on a extremely cheap contract.
