I'm thinking he's going after Green first. He will come the cheapest and he's best served as your sixth man 3&D so there's no real hard feelings to bench him for Johnson when he is ready. Green is more less strictly 3&D as to where Johnson has a lot more versatility then that so he will eventually take the spot when he starts to catch on. Green also has a ton of playoff and Finals experience while draining mad 3s.

Magic matching 15/yr just to piss stan off would say more about orlando as an organization than Stan.

Sometimes it's better to be kind than right. Especially when it's to your benefit lol politics go with the territory. LB had a tendency to shoot himself in the foot too.

And SVG loves him all things Popovich/San Antonio to boot. So hed love to get Green here and then pick his brain a bit and have the players see how a (former) SA player prepares and the like. We'll have to overpay Green, but some of that could be mitigated by the fact that once Johnson proves ready to start, we could trade Meek and his one year remaining, and have Danny back up both the 2 and 3 for the rest of his contract here. Green made $4M last season, and is only around $15M for his career at this point. I think he'll come cheaper than other targets - 4 yrs 40M could be enough, and that would leave us more money for other FA's - assume Anthony stays for 3M/season, we'd have $7M to spend on another center to round out our roster.

That's what I'm thinking. Give Green 4/40 and with rumors of Charlotte maybe letting Biyombo go I would throw the rest his way.

Jackson/Jennings
KCP/Meeks
Johnson/Green
Ilyasova/Tolliver
Drummond/Biyombo

I really like that squad

Why would Green come to a 32-50 Detroit team to come off the bench? Makes no sense. if he comes here and we pay him 11-12 mil a year, he is starting.

In this offense he can most certainly play both when we go 4-1. If we go after Harris and sign him I expect in a sign and trade giving up a future first and maybe Meeks. We need room to address the backup center position 6 mil I don't think is enough

Detroit vs Everybody

I would expect a 3 team trade as the Magic if anything have a loaded backcourt. Boston has more to offer in a trade being they are loaded with future 1sts from other teams. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Pretty much hit it. Virtually any free agent of note will expect to start for the Pistons, and should.

We'll have a hard enough time getting a player like Green (used to winning and likely to have options to remain in a winning situation) to consider signing here, but offering a starting position is necessary.

I also agree on KCP. I think one thing nobody really wants to think about right now is that Jackson/KCP/Johnson cannot and will not be our starting perimeter going forward. Why? SVG is all about spacing and shooting. None of those 3 players are dead eye shooters that will consistently command the respect and gravity of defenses, a necessary component to a SVG offense.

This probably would have been true if we'd drafted Winslow too, but I see a trade or return to the bench in the future for one of our guys. I suspect we'll sign or trade for SOMEBODY who can shoot the 3 in the offseason at small forward who will start (everything we've heard before the draft and since suggest SVG never intended to start our draft pick out of the shoot).

Should Stanley progress to the point where he commands a starting position, expect KCP to either be traded or transitioned into a 6th man-type roll.

Because he's not really starting material. He maybe a starter for a few teams us included for the time being but his skillset is strictly defense and 3pt shooting. He's going to the highest bidder and I think by now he understands his role in the NBA and up to this point hasn't really shown any problem with it, why would he now?

I think he would start at first but depending on how fast SJ progresses he will go back to his 3&Drole player position.

Green isn't starting material?? He is arguable the best defensive SG after Klay and arguably the best shooting SG behind him as well. You can't name 8 better shooting guards than him.

Wade, Kobe, Harden, Klay, Beal, Olidipo, Matthews

Green isn't starting material?

Guess nobody told the Spurs, the best franchise in sports, who started him 80 out of 81 games last season.

I'm still on the Harris train and not sure what shot we have at Green, but I would definitely be interested.

You're thinking about Orlando Stan. Stan in Miami had 2 good shooters on the entire roster. I think we'll see a hybrid of the two here. Stan seems to really like KCP.

SVG shouldn't be sold on KCP because he's shown nothing but being a streaky spot up shooter and solid defender. Danny Green is nothing but a consistent KCP playing in a better offense with more playmakers.

Whether or not Danny Green starts depends on how much playmaking is on the floor with him just like every other shooter. More than half of his attempts are threes. Just because he's coming from a winning team playing with TP, Manu, Diaw, Duncan, and Kawhi, and will likely get paid nicely doesn't mean he's a automatic starter by default. It just depends on what the rest of the lineup offers. Danny Green doesn't create any offense.

I didn't know that, I thought he was still backing up Ginobilli. And I didn't say he couldn't start but you typically want players who can create for themselves or others a little bit more as a starting wing.

he understands his role that he has been a starter on a championship caliber team for 4 years. He isnt going somewhere to be a backup.

Actually yeah now that I think about I can always remember Shaq or Barkley yelling "Ginobilliiii" when talking about who the Sixth man of the year should be. So who was starting there before Green? Didn't they just get him like 2-3 years ago out of the DLeague or something?

Never mind then I don't want him. If he's going to bitch about eventually being Johnsons backup even though I don't think he would then I will pass.

For me Danny Green is a clear 2nd option if Carroll and Green are both targets in UFA and restricted FA like Harris are only a 3rd option. Green is a pure SG and never played SF for the Spurs. Yes his 3 & D skills are elite but if you go after a guy like Green you put him in a position to get the best out of him and thats at SG. That means you put KCP almost fulltime at SF assuming Johnson is not ready to play big minutes at SF. Carroll just would be a better fit at SF imo. Green will command at least 10 mil per year, Carroll 12-13 i think, it that case you really go after Carroll first.

Return to Detroit Pistons
