We need to target bigs first. Sign Monroe (who is young and actually wants to play here) and trade for Taj Gibson using our exceptions, which will keep Chicago out of the tax allowing them to re-sign Butler.

PG: Calderon | Galloway | Grant
SG: [•] | Shved | Ledo
SF: Anthony | Early | Antetokounmpo
PF: Gibson | Porzingis | Amundson
C: Monroe | Aldrich | Smith

His defense against the Clips was outstanding. He's a premier defender and can shoot the 3 as well as almost anybody in the league. With Melo on Offense and Lang/Grant on defense he would makd a lethal combination on both ends.

He's a three point shooting role player that plays good defense. He's a good player for the 7-8 mil he should get.

Man, if you can't go one-on-one and get to the rim with a monster slam, then people think you can't play basketball.

Why is 3 & D such a limited skill? He'll be playing in the triangle with Melo. He won't be asked to create off the dribble and be an iso scorer.

His role will be to play D, shoot from 3, and move the ball. He'll do the first 2 as well as you can find. If he learned anything about leadership in his time in SA, all the better.

Again, what else do you want him to do, and more importantly, why?

I like this idea...who would we trade away, Ledo?

Monta is too small for a shooting guard and doesn't play D.

He's a system player, and ahhh yeah that's exactly what we need here.

Beware of Danny Green

That depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a ball dominant iso guard then Monta is definitely your guy. He can definitely score although is not a great shooter. He also has a tendency to be very moody so any team that signs him has to have a strong locker room. He also plays almost no defense and is not a good rebounder.

Green is the stereotypical 3 and D player. Can't create his own shot but can be a lock down defender and is consistent from beyond the arc. Any team that signs him though NEEDS to have a PG that can break down a defense though.

Just had this same discussion in the Monta thread. Melo has his drawbacks---but he's still franchise. Monta has his drawbacks, but he's still a great #2. He was just the best player and leading scorer on a 50 win western conference team.
Comparing him to Green is ridiculous.

Would I rather Butler or Middleton, yes. LMA or Gasol as the 2nd option making Green a 3rd or 4th option? Yes.
But if we're stacking this team with defensive role players, we need a legit starter and #2 scorer.
that's what Ellis is and has been.
best case scenarion would be an Ellis/Green Backcourt. But Green wants too much money for that.

Green > Shump any day of the week. Better D, not foul prone, not injury prone. He's everything we wanted in Shump. to tell you the truth I feel he should be the first person we go after while other teams go after players that are impossible to get because everyone knows they're afraid of big market teams.

I have a love hate relationship with Monta, If we're playing a big guard next to him (Grant) than OK it can work sense he's a SG in a PG body. Otherwise he'll hurt us more than he can help.

he's better than Shump----but he's in the same class as Shump. If he's the 2nd or 3rd best player in our lineup--we're not going anywhere.

I've had him for the last 2 years on my fantasy team so I've paid attention to nearly every game he's played. He might be the most inconsistent player in the NBA. One game he'll fill the box score and look like he's going to break out into a star, then the next 2 games he'll shoot 1-3 with 3 rebounds and a steal and I would consider dropping him.

Point is, he's good, but not 12 mil good. I like him and he's a long island kid, but if we pay anything more than 7-8 mil we're going to regret it.

We don't have to trade away anyone of importance. Just send Chicago $3 million in cash considerations, a 2nd rounder, and the rights to Louis Labeyrie + our trade exception.

Question, do we have enough money to get Green, David West, and Monroe?

This sounds good but one would have think that the bulls can get a similar deal elsewhere with better assets.
