Last year was like FTD, only from this team the Bucks have 3 better players going forward than FTD did, and can potentially make it a 4th by investing in free agency. So really to make that comparison about it going forward and to suggest not taking a good free agent if we can get him is flat out ridiculous.
If we don't look to add another solid starter in free agency, where else could we probably find him in the future? You know we're not landing any more top 10 picks, right? That ship is sailed. We're entrenched as being too good for that. We shouldn't be tanking in free agency for a #18 pick instead of #22. And if we can add a solid starter thru trades, a Lopez or whoever is not going to stop us. If anything they'd empower us to move Henson for potential future starters where if we hold onto him we pay an exorbitant sum for a role player or lose him for nothing.
Oh, and the arena vote, that's happening to even keep us in the state and make these conversations meaningful. Zero signings, Boban, Kyle O'Quinn, etc. certainly aren't improving the chances of getting the result we want.
Using this money/space to invest in a significant free agent is the sensible thing to do if we don't continually strike out first and end up reaching and signing some sort of fringe starter to a sizable long-term deal we might regret in the future when we're trying to pay our core.
P.S.: A vote for a new arena to even keep us in the state, that's about to happen. And signing nobody or Boban
