Poster recognition

Post#1 » by lilfishi22 » Tue Jun 30, 2015 4:22 am

Here on the Suns board, I've always felt that we have a great fan base who contribute to engaging conversation and humor and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. As you may or may not have noticed, we have a "Top Posters" list near the top of the board which has an unchanging list of posters who have been recognised in the past for their contribution.

We have decided to revamp the system now to give recognition to three great contributors to the board over the past weeks. The voting will be done by the current mods on this board but we also encourage nominations from anyone on the board. We will update the list every 2 weeks acknowledging quality posts based on but not limited to the following criteria:

Engaging discussion - for those who posts their thoughts and continue to engage

Thorough posts - for those who posts their thoughts and back it up with facts/stats

Starting an interesting topic - self-explanatory. Could be based on an interesting article or news

Humor - Who doesn't love humor?

We also encourage feedback on the judging criteria and any other aspect of this new feature. Everyone is up for nomination whether you're a new poster with 2 posts or a veteran poster who's been around for years. And, in light of the début of the revamped Top Posters list, we want to acknowledge 2 extra exceptional posters. Please join me in recognising these 5 posters for their awesome contribution for the first update. :D

Los Soles - always backing up his posts with solid analysis, numbers and facts

AtheJ415 - solid in just about every post since he started contributing

Skinny O'Miller - great posts for a new poster

MrMiyagi - engaging discussion in the draft thread

NaturalBuns - starting an interesting topic which has sparked some interesting conversation about our Front Office

Hey, we see your quality contributions as well, and your funny posts, and those are appreciated, so keep that stuff up!

Of course...go to the other team stuck in no man's land who look like they might have a better future than us. But make no mistake, we will be a Force to be reckoned with, as I demonstrated with my star wars post in the offseason thread.

Also, one of the three posters is eligible to stay on two consecutive lists, but a minimum of two will be replaced.

I like it.

It's a twist on a feature every forum has but rarely uses.

Also like that someone can say something so out of left field and so far-fetched and if they're funny about it they can make top poster :)

Great idea! I've never thought too much about the "top posters" feature, but this adds an engaging twist to it.

No, you provided much needed humor there and would DEFINITELY have been on the list.

Hey I had that top poster (no pun intended) in my room as a kid.

I was actually anti- these thread types in the old forum I posted in. Made other posters feel less appreciated.

Just my opinion though.

I completely understand, and what you say is kind of the reason it was changed, since there was a list at the top that hadn't changed, and it could make people who are not on the list feel less appreciated.

Everyone is appreciated, but this is more of a revolving list based on the previous two weeks. Kind of like Howard does in his Mass Dispatches when he names a few posters who have had some great threads or posts of late.

That's a valid concern, but it sounds like the mod team is going to be looking equally at veteran and rookie posters, so since it's a short term title that seems to allow enough of a chance for everyone to be considered. If I actually put myself in the shoes of someone who doesn't post a lot or is new, it gives a chance to make a valuable or hilarious contribution somewhere and get some buzz. As long as nobody takes it too seriously, it seems like a fun way to build the sense of community.

The top posters listed will be constantly changing but for two weeks at a time, we just want to recognise and show appreciation to contribution of the posters on our board. Once again, anyone and everyone will be considered, whether you post once a week or five times an hour, whether you're a new poster or a veteran poster.
