Technically it can be only four years.

Towns has a couple decent mentors in Pek (post moves) and KG (everything else).

Am I crazy to think that Towns may actually be underrated right now?

Yeah, I understand he was the consensus #1 pick which is usually a pretty good sign and that most people are pretty excited about him and his future potential...

I have the weird feeling that he is going to be WAY better than we expected and much sooner than we expected.

I mean look at how good the situation is for him. He has KG as a mentor, who can still play some quality minutes for the team (so it's not just a visit to Hakeem for a week in the summer). He gets to play next to KG while learning from him, that's incredibly valuable.

He's going to have another up and coming super star in Wiggins to take defensive pressure off him, and Rubio to get him easy baskets/wide open looks.

Also, even though the defense was last in the league, the team was a patch work of youth and end of bench guys a lot of the year.

Towns has pretty elite defenders with him in Wiggins/Rubio and Pek/KG/Dieng/Payne are all decent pairings with Towns defensively.

There's been a weird perfect storm the last 12 months or so and I could see it continuing with Towns as rookie of the year and looking much like Wiggins did last year (i.e. legit).

Yeah I meant the 4 years plus the one year on the qualifying offer to become a unrestricted free agent to be able to leave and choose your own team.

From a numbers standpoint, what are your expectations from Towns his rookie year?

Is something like 15 ppg, 7 rpg, 1.5 bpg feasible?

Points might be high and rebounds a little low.

I think he'll be somewhere around 10-12 points and 8-10 rebounds.

Yeah, I'd say 12-15 points, 8-10 rebounds and 2 bpg.

I'm pissed I missed the press conference especially when I used to work downtown! I'm trying to down play my expectations because I was hyped for Derek Williams as well. Does anyone else think he will immediately experience foul trouble? We saw this with Pek and it's a lot different than college...

Probably.

1. He had some foul trouble in college. Some of that could have been him committing a foul because his team had so much depth that he could afford to send people to the line. Some could have been him being young and still learning.

2. Most young players struggle with defense and fouls. Look at Wiggins at the beginning of the year. He had that foul on Jimmy Butler that could have been traveling and he had a similar play against Kobe early in the year.

A Davis averaged 13.5 and 8 his rookie year, so I would guess maybe 12 and 8, or something around there.
