Is this Andre Drummonds next Max figure?!?!?!?!?!

How is this right? I assume the same is the case for Andre.... WTF? I know things are changing with the cap but this kind of figure makes you think twice.

A Max extension for Andre will be huge. 5 years $100 million I'm guessing as he'll get to cash in on that new TV money.

Not the same, Davis has made All star games and All NBA teams to raise up his max a bit.

Drummonds deal will be huge, but the one Davis gets will be slightly higher.
Guys coming off of rookie deals are usually eligible for 25% of the cap the first year of their contract. But there are certain conditions that can up that to 30%.
Start twice in the All-Star game and you can get 30%. Be named to the all nba team twice and you can get 30%. Win leaguve MVP and you can get 30%.
Drummond would have to win league MVP this year for him to get 30%. Probably not happening.
Anyway, don't let the huge numbers throw you. 25% of the cap is 25% of the cap no matter how big/small the actual dollar amounts are.

Dre's deal should be about $18, $19, $20, $21, $22.... 5 years $100 million... but of course it will depend on just how high that cap rises.

Re: Is this Andre Drummonds next Max figure?!?!?!?!?!
The cap is expected to go from ~$66 mil in '15/'16 to ~$108 mil in '17/'18. As others have said, max contracts can get up to 30% (35% after 10 years) of the salary cap. So ~$20 mil max now = ~$30 mil max in 2 years. It still represents the same portion of available cap. This is why player salaries are going to explode and anyone complaining about "overpaying" guys who are no doubt starters at $10 mil a year doesn't know what they are talking about. In 2 years a $10 mil deal for Danny Green will be the equivalent of a $6 mil deal on the current cap. These FAs/their agents know this math already.

Drummond is one of the few big men in the league that can although us to play 1 in/4 out basketball. He is a top 3 rebounder in the league with developing low post game, shotblocking instincts, and has a tremendous attitude to go along with his youth. SVG couldn't have asked for a better fit at center so I fully expect Dre to get the max. Hopefully he isn't sick of us losing and decides to accept what we offer him lol.

If Drummond doesn't develop defensively then this contract will be an albatross. I can see why Drummond is pushing to get the deal done this offseason, but I also could understand if SVG was hesitant. Thats a lot of money to pay for a guy with only one elite skill.
If we are being honest about Drummond- he's an elite rebounder, above average shot blocker, average defender and below average scorer.
Atleast Deandre is a very good defender and shotblocker while also being the league's best rebounder. I would prefer for Detroit to wait until next year to see if Drummond can make improvements before handing him such a huge contract.

Andre Drummond also happens to be just 21 years old.
DeAndre Jordan is 26 years old.
Edit: Monroe fans need to let it go. Drummond is the future here. Start dealing with it, guys.

Saying Drummond needs to develop his defense has nothing to do with being a Monroe fan or not.
Drummonds potential is key for Detroit to become relevant again, but that is also dependent on Drummond becoming a better defender.
I am sick of the DJ comparison. We all know he is a better defender but he's also much older. Enough with that.

I saw 5 years $121 million here

The Pistons should pledge now to give Drummond that max contract in 2016 with some minimum benchmarks -- like Drummond at least maintaining his current level -- and then they should follow through. He'd have to take a leap of faith, but hopefully, his relationship with Gores would persuade him to do so.
He'd get the same contract -- projected to be worth up to approximately $121 million over five years -- either way. To him, as long as he believes that the Pistons would honor their word, it's just a matter of when he puts pen to paper.

Wow! IMO, we definitely should not extend Andre for that figure this season. Lets see how he plays being the only bigman before making that type of monetary commitment.

Re: Is this Andre Drummonds next Max figure?!?!?!?!?!
They key is to convince Drummond to go into RFA next offseason. (like the Spurs did with Leonard this past season) Yes he will get the max anyway, but this way his caphold (about 9-10 mil ) is way lower than the 21 mil he will get 2016. This way even after paying 15 mil per year to Jackson and 15 mil per year to Carroll for example the Pistons will have Max capspace with the salary cap going up to 90 mil 2016. If he signs the max extension this offseason he will be on the books for 21 mil 2016 definitely and the Pistons could have about 10 mil capspace.

A max contract for a 4 year veteran is always 25% of the cap, Drummond will get that for sure - literally every team in the league next offseason will have max capspace with the salary cap hitting 90 mil.

I posted a lot about this in the other Drummond max thread but yea I agree for the most part. Gotta be honestly optimistic. I don't care how much money we have available with the new cap without offense and FT's Drummond is not worth a full 2 or 3 players. I like him a lot but my goodness. I don't know which figures are right for the potential contract

Davis is probably factoring in the Rose rule for his contract to be that high. Plus he's worth that and plus more since he's already a star, superstar.
Dre will get noticeably less, and rightly so.

Agreed.
However, I do see a pattern in some of the posts.
That's okay, though. Drummond is the cornerstone of this franchise at this point. He does have to improve his defense but he is still is only 21 years old....and plays on a team where literally no one else (except the rookie and may be KCP) has ever played above-average defense their whole career.

Re: Is this Andre Drummonds next Max figure?!?!?!?!?!
if dre gets the 'designated player' max then it's a five year extension, the first year starting at 25% of the salary cap with a 7.5% annual increase.
if the cap for 2017 is $89 million (a projection I've seen quite often), then his contract looks like:
2017: $22,250,000
2018: $23,918,750
2019: $25,712,657
2020: $27,641,105
2021: $29,714,188
Total five year extension: $129,236,700
just for a comparison, next year davis will likely be either an all-star starter or make an all-nba team (have to do either twice on your rookie contract) to qualify for the 'rose exception', where the player can get 30% of the salary cap to start. his extension would look like:
2017: $26,700,000
2018: $28,702,500
2019: $30,855,188
2020: $33,169,327
2021: $35,657,026
Total five year extension: $155,084,040
unless he signs his extension for a certain dollar amount this offseason there will be no financial benefit for the pistons if they do it this offseason. the language in the contract would say 'designated player max' which would automatically entitle him the figures above, regardless of what the cap is at the time of signing.
