I could see the Lakers getting nothing again. Nobody likes Kobe. LMA goes to San Antonio, Jordan re-signs with LAC or goes to Dallas, Monroe with the Knicks, Gasol stays in Memphis, Brook Lopez stays in Brooklyn. I could see Indiana trading Hibbert there for a TPE or something being what they end up with.

I think I would rather go after Danny Green instead of Harris. Way better defender, 3pt shooter and has winning and clutch experience. Also already in his prime and ready to go.

@Snakebites: Come on, we went from Monroe who gave us 16pts/10rebs to Illyasova who's really a bench player. I was looking for improvement. I would say trading for Illyasova was a decent move at best.

@DetroitPistons, @BFB, @Snakebites, I got the news from yahoo and bleacher report.

@Snakebites, we gotta think positive man. Striking out can't be an option at this point.

It sounds like Green is our first option in free agency. How awesome would it be to land Green and then S&T Jennings/picks for Harris?

He can score in many ways. S&T for him now. He should be a priority.

i don't understand this line of thinking. unless they're bringing in lebron, EVERY GM signing free agents is going to overspend this offseason. we're especially going to have to spend a little extra because of the "detroit tax" to get players to sign here.

what do you guys who follow this line thinking think we should do? stand pat until next offseason, possibly forgoing a desperately needed postseason run for drummond, jackson, KCP, etc.? sign a cheap wing, hoping he can outplay his contract? trade what little assets we have for a middling wing?

ugh, i just don't get it. the time is now, people. we NEED to go out and get a difference-maker. for drummond's faith in the franchise, for the growth and development of KCP and SJ, for my own personal sanity, we need to play some winning basketball. for ****'s sake, how can you piss and moan over a slight overpay when the cap's about to skyrocket??

unless i'm missing something, i think coming out of this FA with anything less than a starter would be a major disappointment.

/rant

Josh Smith was supposed to be a difference maker.

SVG isn't that stupid, but I don't like the idea of spending $14 mil on a guy that isn't a core member of the franchise.
Maybe I'm just a nervous nelly when it comes to free agency because Dumars continually screwed it up.
I'm fine with either Green or Carroll if we can get them, but I just don't want to overspend on guys that I don't classify as difference makers

i'm advocating spending the money on a difference maker that FITS. that's completely different from the BG/CV and Smith FA bombs of yesteryear. gordon was an especially curious fit, given the timing of the signing (directly after rip hamilton's 3-year extension). villanueva never lived up to his contract either, but at least he was somewhat of a sensible fit with the roster. and we all know smith's story, in the middle of a possible extension year for monroe, and dumars goes out to add the best talent he can, regardless of fit. that's NOT what i'm saying we should do.

if we can add a guy that fits exactly what we're trying to do, what's the risk in spending a couple extra million a year? that's the question i wanna ask every fan that wants to penny-pinch.

BG & CV were both terrible fits!

We entered that off-season with $18 mil to spend and Chauncey, Rip, Prince, Stuckey, Afflalo and Maxiell under contract.

Easy to see where the money should have been spent...but Joe was blind to the truth.

Fast forward to us having Dre, Monroe, KCP, Knight on the books and almost $18 mil to spend...again Joe was blind to where the money should have been spent!

SVG might not be abke to see his feet but he can see the holes on his roster!

Harris & Green solve problems - they don't create them. Even Crowder would solve a problem!

If we sign someone that messes up the message SVG has repeated for 12 months I'll be very surprised

I'm greedy, I want Green and one of Harris/Carroll. I view Harris/Carroll as pretty similar guys, Tobias has 10 lbs on DeMarre but they are both 6'8" 3/4 swing players. Working our rotation so KCP / Green / (Harris or Carroll) / Johnson / Ilyasova take the 2/3/4 minutes provides a ton of spacing around Jackson/Jennings and Drummond at the 1 & 5. That's a strong 8 man rotation, 9 with whoever eats up the backup 5 minutes.

We'd need to dump Meeks to make that happen, I'm not sure what the market would be, but if the Cavs strike out on bigger targets with the Haywood contract, maybe they take Meeks to give them another shooter.

^Good in a way, because I think Orlando matches any offersheet, and if they did then Harris couldn't be dealt to the Celtics for a full year, so we could try and snag him via trade during the season. Bad though, if rather than going the offersheet route they agree to a deal in principle but then work out a S&T with Orlando.

Harris recently started following Isiah Thomas and Avery Bradley on twitter, if that means anything.

In any case, looks like Harris is a Celtic or a Magic. Pistons appear all in on Danny Green who is coveted by other teams. Haven't heard that we have contacted Carroll but ATL is committed to him.

Millsap is picking between ATL and Orlando, if ATL loses him, I'd have to believe they go hard to lock Carroll up. Sucks Harris is likely signing with Boston, I'm not sure Magic have the cap to sign Millsap once Harris gets the offer sheet from someone else, potentially causing them to have to let Harris walk.

Orlando met with Paul Millsap at midnight - he'll choose between ATL and Orlando it's reported. If they get Millsap, they have no use/room for Harris.

Dammit, we need a guy to play PF, not another SG/SF

I'd be shocked if Millsap went with the Magic. Magic offered Millsap 4/80! LOL, thats crazy.

That said, reportedly a Harris-Millsap S&T may be in the works.

I'm starting to shift into "Lets just rent out our cap space" mode. Take Splitter or Diaw to help the Spurs get Aldridge and give a top 10 protected 1st for Randle/Young/Kelly to help the Lakers land DeAndre and Love. Waive Martin and roll with:

Jackson / Jennings / Dinwiddie
KCP / Meeks / Hilliard
Young / Johnson / Miller
Randle / Ilyasova / Tolliver / Kelly
Drummond / Splitter

Sure, why not? It doesn't look like we will be getting any of the coveted free agents anyways. Bummed we weren't the ones to tender the offer sheet to Harris.

Well, randell, would be a great pick up in my opinion. I would love that, but I don't see that happening.
