I just feel like Green will be another Meeks signing. They're great characters and you can win with them but I just don't feel like they can start on the team. Carroll CAN play and he's proven. Something about the Spurs that Green looks really good on that team. The stars help.

Not the same at all IMO, Meeks had his only good season on one of the league's worst teams. Green has played and performed well on the highest level- hes a significantly better player than Meeks. I think you are underrating Green, that said- its a moot point since its highly doubtful Green signs up to play out of positon for Detroit.

Agree with a lot of this. I think we start out sitting with Carroll and asking him what it would take to have him sign tomorrow. And then give it to him and be done with it. Nothing will look like an overpay in two years.

Note on Meeks - I think we're going to see a lot better version of him this year. Getting hurt to start the year really sucked. I'm pretty sure he's working his ass off this summer and will give KCP a run for his money on the starting SG spot.

I don't think we would necessarily be sacrificing wins. With Johnson's NBA ready defense, energy, and ability to run the floor I think the will be plenty effective to keep us competitive. I also don't believe we will be a losing team next year.

Don't believe the hype, even KAT isn't NBA ready, he'll just be force fed. There is a learning curve. i remember when KCP was touted as NBA defensively ready and he had huge adjustments. i think with some time SJ will adjust, however NBA teams will expose him when he's on the court and our team can't afford that. If he's further along than that at the beginning of the season then that,it'll be pretty exciting as he'll be ahead of the curve.

Considering we played .500 after cutting Smith despite injuries and multiple player movements, we should be close to playoffs as is.
we could just sign a younger wing like Dorrell wright or similar and be better. Jennings, Meeks and a cheaper younger SF would be better than JJ imo.

I tend to highly value NBA experience and players that an down right score teh ball. JJ brings both. He's the go to scorer we never had, and can play withni our system. Jennings at best gets traded later on in the season for probably a role player and meeks(who SVG values) is valuable, but JJ brings more to the table. I agree that we more than likely a playoff team as is, I KNOW we are a playoff team with the addition of JJ.

The only downside to JJ is that we won't be able to lock in a free agent under the older cap but that really is the only negative. Jennings won't be able to fetch us more than a late 1st from a contender if that. Why keep him on to disrupt chemistry and complain when he doesn't get playing time in his contract year?

But turning Jennings+Meeks into JJ+Bogdanovich would definitely put us into the 7th-8th seed guaranteed, and if Reggie Jackson or Drummond makes the next step then we could be sitting 5-6 with that squad. JJ carried that Nets carcass into the playoffs last year.

If we want Green we need to go in with a four year offer and make him feel like he is part of our future and core and not simply a bridge until we get to Stanley Johnson. He's coming from a tight team in San Antonio and will be willing to be a bench player if he has an important role off it. He'd be our 6th man, and likely on the floor in close games even if he isn't starting for us down the line. IF KCP and Stanley Johnson blossom into starters better than Green, I could still see ending games with Stanley at the four and Kentavious and Danny at the 2 & 3.

There's also the possibility that Danny Green simply does not want to be a full time small forward.

I don't think Detroit is going to lock down Green or Carroll quickly, unless they pull a Dumars with a massive overpay.

You are right. We tend to get a little myopic when thinking about our team needs, but there's a half dozen or more other boards discussing Green and Carroll the same way we are, especially with Aminu now gone off the market. I don't see Green deciding on anything until he knows San Antonio has landed Aldridge as I expect them to bring him back if they don't. Carroll knows he's head and shoulders the best SF option realistically available and isn't going to jump unless someone really brings it at $15+ mil.
