Both were severely overpaid.

Monroe's max contract would be the steal of free agency for whoever lands him.

See now that's a good contract. That guy who loves Aminu just wanted to lace his pockets because he was the one who drafted him.

They've offered him 80 mil over 4 yrs (per Broussard)

Good lord. First come the crazy out of control owners, next comes the Lockout in 2017 where owners, once again, try to protect themselves from themselves.

Yep. Dunleavy would have been a real good fit in the Triangle.

Thats an average of 14 million per season. Seems about right. Not the full max though.

A few random thoughts.

Not completely sold on Monroe, not enough D, not enough a true Center, more a PF, and Zing projects as a PF, though a few years down the line.

That said, the big men that are available aren't that compelling, assume LA and Gasol aren't available, Monroe seems like next best bet.

Now, IF reports are true and he wants a 2 year deal so he can redo his contract under a new CBA, then this is IDEAL. IF he projects better than he is now, Knicks can resign him with Bird rights and yet he is still only, what, 26, 27? Or, he can be traded, or if it's not worth it or a better player is available, they can let him walk and use the cap space.

Obviously Gasol is my first choice. Honestly, I'd rather have monroe at 2 years max then LMA at 5 years max.

And, based on Melo's comments about "folks not knowing what is coming" make me think there is at least some deal that has been sitting there handshake and is coming, something compelling.
I'd think this means Gasol, Wade or...Monroe (not that I think Monroe is that compelling). Just doesn't seem like you make a cryptic remark about David West or Carroll coming to your team. Heck, I'd say the same about Monroe, but there is so much smoke about him coming I included him.

nice rim protection but dude doesn't rebound and isn't much of a threat offensively.

If you are going small ball than I could see it with Melo at the 4 and say a Carroll at the 3.

I don't want Monroe, these idiots just want something to complain about. I'd save my money for other players.
