We shoud then get Tobias Harris, a Center like Robin L and a PF like Teletovic, who could excel in our system. Then Muscala, Daye and Scott.

It's so freaking annoying that FAs don't consider us an option. This would be an easy decision if players weren't afraid to come here

Re: Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread
Instead of paying Millsap $20 million for 17 PPG...
How about re-signing Demarre for $11 million and trading for Pekovic and his $12 million+ salary.
We keep the perimeter defense, but improve our rebounding, post scoring, post defense for largely the same price.
And if Millsap is a bargain at $20 million, Pek seems like even better value at $12 million.
He avg 12 points & 7 rebounds playing literally half the game. (25 mpg to be exact)
If nothing else, he single-handedly improves the front court depth. And that contract will be immensely tradable as the salary cap increases.
Hell, we could get Kevin Martin and Pekovic for less than what we just offered Millsap.
That's 32 combined PPG for less than Millsap's yearly salary...

You are correct, if we are offering PM 20 million, that pretty much says NO Demarre Carroll unless he gave us a GREAT hometown discount

Apparently. the Magic have enough cap space to sign Sap and resign T Harris. If they do both then they are better than us next year.

I don't know who you are.
But I've put in 10 years here at Real GM.
You've been here less than a month.
Chill out....NO ONE is talking to you.
With all due respect, Jamaal is a highly respected OG member here. He sometimes takes the pessimistic side, but thats just him (we agree mostly so Im a little biased

Apparently, Tobias is a backup plan should we lose the blue-collar over-achievers:

The only problem with your scenario is assuming people will trade with us, and people will come here . amiright ?
I am not jumping off a cliff yet, Bud had to have seen this coming, these guys are not stupid. Lets see how it plays out. 20 million is a little shocking, we can go up to 81 million before the tax right? So we could be able to sign DMC , Mace?
$40,581,065 is our cap right now , add 20 million for Millsap add 10 million for DMC (if he gets that ), 40+30=70, we would be over the cap but under the Luxury Tax (which is what Ressler said he would be willing to do).
Now, that does completely nuke signing anyone else unless we use the exceptions (im not sure we even have any).

FWIW, GSW Payroll is currently $83,433,316
We can only go over the cap with our OWN Free Agents correct? So we should be able to resign DMC and PM at whatever the cost as long as it is sub 81 million dollars total team payroll?
But i think you have to use cap space if the starting salary is higher than the early bird rights, or whatever. SO CONFUSING

Yes. If Sap signs for $80M then we can offer DMC a four yr deal starting at around $5M per or a 2 yr deal at $10M per = $20M either way. Bye, bye Demarre...

We can only exceed the salary cap by using exceptions. But since Millsap only was on a two-year contract with us, the offer of $20 million will not fall under an exception.
That $20 million is all cap space, baby. As if he were a Free Agent signee. Meaning our ability to improve the remaining holes on the roster are...limited.

We sign our guys, and that'll be our extent in FA.
Huge mistake IMO. Sap is good, but the easiest position to fill is PF, and we have Al.
I don't think Sap deserves as big a deal as Leonard.

AHHH i keep forgetting they were on 2 year deals.
Yeah, if they do this it means no DMC , no bench improvement.

Bingo!
Regarding my proposed Pek trade from Minnesota, T-Wolves have been begging for trade partners for a year.
With Dieng and Karl Anthony-Towns aboard...having Pek onboard simply does them no benefit.
I'd rather go shopping and pick up players from other teams and lesser free agents than to spend $20 million on a guy who likely won't be an All Star on any other team.

The $5 bargain bin is how we roll...Jeremy Evans, Alexis Ajinca, Kyle O'quinn, Ryan Hollins, Jeff Taylor, Wesley Johnson or Perry Jones via trade...pick 2.

Wow
SAS does it again.
They groomed him in their D-League franchise, set him loose in a role they knew he could handle, won a title with him as a main cog, then retained him on a reasonable contract.
That's how you run a front office.

Harris is a RFA, so orlando is using all their cap money on Millsap then they can match Any offer that Harris would get, this is why they went early after a FA.
If Harris get an offer 1st and orlando match then they wont have mpney to go after millsap or any other top FA
Harris is looking for a max contract (between 14-15M)

When Millsap signs for $80M I guess I can stop focusing on us and check out the otherteams moves.
