The East is wide open right now this is the time to be treamill the Cavs aren't a super team and lebron is on the decline. Take your chances you might go on crazy run in the playoffs quit the losers mentality.

Not just that, but he set Derozan's price at about 25M.

WTF is Masai doing.

You don't think Masai has already talked to those players' agents, and those agents have told him that the chances of their client signing here are slim?

So you trade for one.

You don't give your max cap space to a role player. We had SUCH an opportunity to add someone.

Who, exactly? This isn't NBA2K. Players are not going to sign or be traded here just because the numbers work. The other team/player need to co-operate too.

Teams don't trade players? Really?

We had 25M in cap space to trade. Plus 4 first round draft picks in the next 2 yrs Plus other assets.

Demar is as good as gone. Either in a S&T towards a bigger incoming contract, or as a salary move where we get depth+picks to improve the roster in other ways. These deals are making him a total bargain and there will be teams clamoring to add *something* after missing out in this summers FA signing season. DD can be that guy and we can extort good value for him.

And we still have that room to trade. Any hypothetical trade we make we'll be sending salary the other way. That's how 99% of trades involving higher salary players work in the NBA. Signing Carroll changes literally nothing about our ability to make a future impact trade. If anything it improves the chances of it happening as Carroll himself could be used as a trade chip once he's eligible to be dealt.

Probably not. It will be really close. Depends on the final cap number and starting salary for Carrol

So why did we just throw our fat wallet at a role player who complements Demar (instead of Harris or someone who is far more talented but just nto as complementary)?

Raptors Cap Situation - Post DeMarre Carroll

Post#433 » by Kenyon009 » Wed Jul 1, 2015 5:31 pm

We could outbid for wade. He would be good off the bench for the year and Ross and derozan would learn from him. If we go small he would be a good small forward option next to Derozan and Carroll at the four.

We're still in the trade market. Nobody is going to trade a star making $20M+/year for strictly draft picks. They would want at the very least JV and Ross. They make almost $10M combined, so you don't need that much more cap space to make a trade if that door ever opens.

So you trade Demar + cap space + draft picks for a talent upgrade and a bad contract.

Are you saying 25M in cap space wasn't a huge asset?

Wondering whether there are any realistic scenarios where we utilize Lou/Amir in a S&T for a starting PF??

May as well sign Demar for 30M if Carroll is worth 15.

And why would you trade Demar for "depth and picks"? We have lots of depth. We need talent.

Carroll will still complement a star wing better because he doesn't need the ball. If we can get a star for DD + picks, I'd still rather have Carroll over Harris. Harris is a guy who will put up great stats on a crappy team, like a Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Carroll was a key guy on a great team.

a star wing + Carroll > a star wing + Harris
DD + Carroll > DD + Harris

Harris + scrub > Carroll + scrub
