FINALLY!!!

The voices of reason show up.

I'd rather pay Wes Mathews and his one good Achilles $15 million than 30 year old Millsap $20 million.

By the end of that contract...he is going to be a complete drain on our salary cap.

Hell...him getting multiple offers for that much indicates to me we are undoubtedly heading towards another lockout.

It's simply unsustainable. If mediocre players are making as much as top HOF baseball players...yikes.

Just, wow.

Fiscal irresponsibility on an epic scale.

RIP, remember the good ole days when Danny Ferry was in charge. Those were the better times.

Since this isn't in green, I'm gonna assume that you're serious about WJ to ATL. As a Laker fan, I can tell you that you DO NOT want Wes Johnson. He's the antithesis of Carroll as a player: WJ hasn't improved one bit since going to LA, is a mediocre shooter despite having good form, is much worse on defense, is afraid of driving the ball to the rim----thus negating his athleticism, plays with no heart, does nothing well except dunk in transition, and is almost 30, so that skill is about to go away. Go after KJ McDaniels or Perry Jones instead.

I think THJ protects us if Korver has issue coming back.

The void is still at SF of course. Rookies would not make as big an impact on this team as THJ should next year.

Not sure Thabo will be healthy enough either.

Still room to improve our starting lineup.

Yes you knew Ferry would never overpay or get caught up in anything other than sound business decisions financially.

They say prime NBA years are 27-33. So tbh Millsap gives us the SAME production for 3 years, you can trade him as an expiring.

I really don't like the numbers, but with the CBA and new revenue its NOT that bad

I agree with all of this.

One big question I have...

Why are we putting EVERYTHING into next season. Why trade away long term assets and instead focus on just 2016?

I want to contend EVERY year. But Bud seems to be focusing almost exclusively on just next season.

I'd rather make a steady level of improvement long term than go all in and then be stuck with resetting in 3 years when Millsap is traded and Horford is past his prime.

Spurs are probably at the closest they have ever been to an all-in year this summer. And their level of talent is miles above ours.

Jamaal, 15 years of development and drafting. We have had 2 years under this regime.

Spurs also landed 2 HOFers

Atlanta Hawks 2015 Off-Season Thread

Post#570 » by ATL Boy » Wed Jul 1, 2015 5:42 pm

I guess I missed a lot this morning. First, I LOVE the Splitter move, we get a good center on a salary dump from the spurs.

I'll miss Carroll but I never even wanted to pay double digits for him, let alone $15 mil a year. He's a product of the system imo, 82% of his points last year were assisted.

I want us to bring back Millsap, but $20 mil a year is too much. Id rather go through with that reported sign and trade for Tobias Harris, who's just 22.

Fair enough. But this regime also had 5 first round picks in the last few years.

Only one turned into a rotation player.

That's bad. That's a reasonable sample size to discern that we stink at drafting first round talent.

This year, we didn't even bother drafting in the first round. Adreian played 19 minutes in his entire Hawks career. Bebe never even made the roster.

We draft a hell of a lot higher than SAS and can't even seem to acquire rotational talent.

I am in no way a salary cap guru...where does absorbing Splitter, and a proposed 4y 80m contract with Milsap put us in terms of being able to sign someone else.... say, Tobias Harris?

Ferry wanted to pay Deng 15 mil a year last season so lets not get nuts here.

I love Wesley Johnson but we need a 3 more now. I would give Johnson 14, try to get a guy to cover Lebron for the other 6 instead of Millsap for 20 though.

There is just so much more I can do with 20 million dollars than to keep Paul Milsap, who I like, but come on!

Looks like Millsap is leaning towards the Hawks. :)

Crowder would be the perfect cheap replacement for Carroll.
