Exactly the same for me.

My favourite player ever is Penny Hardaway - just not from when he was a Sun! Apart from that series he killed the Spurs in...2000 I think?

Hon. mention to Barbosa, Grant Hill, Majerle and Lou Amundson

Charles Barkley
Kevin Johnson
Dan Majerle
Jason Kidd
Penny Hardaway
Honorable: Nash

The question suggests 2 types of answers as prompted by Tastic. JKidd and Penny are in my top5 all-time regardless of team and since they played for the Suns i'll put them here.
Sadly, exactly the time when they played in Phoenix, there was little to none NBA coverage in my country, so I couldn't watch them as Suns. Which prompts me to ask (for some reason I have that impression) - why were they badly regarded by the local fanbase in Phoenix? Just curious to know.

Penny CRIPPLED the cap and was always hurt - basically Suns thought they were getting an All Star but he was done. Backcourt 2000 never took off like it could/should have. Two big PGs who complemented each other well and could play both ends.

Then he kinda got in the way of Joe Johnson, even though JJ wasn't ready.

In retrospect we dumped him and Marbury, bottomed out, landed Barbosa and Amare, then got Nash.

Sunrise, sunset.

Gerald Green
Dragic
Barbosa

Penny as favourite player, but not as a Sun.

I think a LOT of people have Penny as their favourite player - SDU does as well from memory.

We really started getting tv coverage back in the early-mid 90s and it was all Bulls, Suns, Magic, Hornets...Those were the days

Don't forget the Sonics...they were playing great basketball at the time. Payton, Kemp, Schrempf and Perkins were fun to watch.
And what about Kidd? What was with him that so many people hated him as a Sun?

And Kidd was good but after KJ who kind of spoiled us, he wasn't really a guy that could put the team on his back offensively and then he beat his wife.

As for your next post, I don't think people hated him. He also didn't have the best roster to play with after McDyess left...but trading him for Marbury was a mistake, unless you look at the long term result in trading Marbury to clear cap space to sign Nash.

Thanks for your answers, guys. I guess the off-the-court issue impacted the overall assessment about him. Can't get used to the public scrutiny of the private life of athletes in the US. Here outside of the yellow press BS nobody cares much what athletes/actors/musicians and the sort do in their private life as long as they perform as is expected of them.

KJ and Nash for obvious reasons.

Ceballos - just loved the way he played, dunked, and I had a sweet poster of his

Dudley - most athletic hands on the team, over achiever, JSPN. Just a lot of fun to cheer for.

The Gorilla - the only constant throughout my 25+ years of rooting for the Suns. Also, I knew the guy under the suit and went to Hawaii with him and his family. (He has since retired and its someone else now). I also love the story of how The Gorilla started, and really shaped what mascots are today.

Honorable mention:
-Michael Finley was my favorite for the short time we had him. Loved him as a rookie
-AC Green
-Raja Bell for simply clotheslining Kobe

And hopefully I can swap Aldridge in soon...

Any post without mention of Majerle is wrong

For me, it's Thunder Dan plus:

KJ
Barkley
Nash
Marion

Return to Phoenix Suns
