Chandler will be declining significantly in 2-3 years.
Without any other additions, this looks like another battling-for-8th-seed team. Purgatory.
We took the risk to get out of your so called purgatory. Have to give props to our FO for even being in race at this point.

S+T Wright for Chandler.
S+T Cleveland, Miami, Miami, Phoenix 1sts and Goodwin for Aldridge.
Keep everyone and then Chandler, Aldridge, Knight are all able to go over cap.

Yes. LMA could receive the true max, 5 years with 7.5% raise every year vs. 4 years with 4.5% raises every year.
The S&T may be attractive to him to:
1. Get some talent back to Portland
2. Get dollar bills
No that is against league rules now. He cannot sign for 5 years and get traded. They changed the rules in 2011. He only gets the max 5 year contract if he signs with Portland and stays there. If he is signed and traded, the max is four years.
Isn't that max regardless?
So basically there's no advantage to sign and trade except for us clearing cap room?

Hornacek is happy now for sure.
Mulhollanddrive wrote:Can both LMA and Chandler go over the cap if we acquire their bird rights?
Or did it change where a team over cap can't sign another (think I read that in the last CBA).

Suns GM Ryan McDonough and staff -- with Tyson Chandler -- still in meeting with Aldridge now in Los Angeles, sources tell Yahoo.

It's a little early to be so black and white on the deal. The fourth year could be a team option. There could be non-guaranteed money.
Neither of those factors changes my main point. Chandler alone keeps us in purgatory and the loss of Wright hurts us down the road. If we are set up to win now (adding LMA) fantastic. If not, I don't see anything good about it.
They saw a chance at getting the big fish, so they went for it. That's a good thing. Sucks if it doesn't work out, but I'm happy they tried.
Swear to god, feels like fans treat this FO with a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" mentality

Depends on the risk-reward. Does Chandler give us a significant chance to land LMA? No one here knows. If it's still a long shot, then it wasn't worth the risk.
It's like saying, "have to give props to our FO for going after LeBron" last year while they potentially passed up other opportunities. No, I think that was a horrible move. The risk-reward was atrocious.

And no player really wants to play with kobe. As soon as I saw kobe was in the meeting, I knew the lakers screwed up.
