Pick tracking thread, Portland, Memphis, and Knicks news, thoughts, and rumors

Post#1 » by The Rebel » Wed Jul 1, 2015 9:50 pm

Right now the Nuggets have the option to swap 1st round picks with the Knicks next year with no protection.

The Trailblazers owe a future 1st with the following protection

2016 first round draft pick from Portland
Portland's 1st round pick to Denver protected for selections 1-14 in 2016 and 1-14 in 2017; if Portland has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Denver by 2017, then Portland will instead convey the less favorable of its 2018 2nd round pick and Sacramento's 2018 2nd round pick (via Sacramento's right to swap for Portland) and its 2019 2nd round pick to Denver [New Orleans-Portland-Sacramento, 7/10/2013; Denver-Portland, 2/19/2015]

The future pick from the Grizzlies is also protected

2016 first round draft pick from Memphis
Memphis' 1st round pick to Denver (via Cleveland) protected for selections 1-5 and 15-30 in 2016, 1-5 in 2017 and 1-5 in 2018 and unprotected in 2019 [Cleveland-Memphis, 1/22/2013; Cleveland-Denver, 1/7/2015]

Let's keep the news and rumors in this thread for all of us to follow

So far it looks like the Knicks are in the running for Afflalo and Monroe who are reportedly their targets, with the contracts going out so far this year I am not so sure that they can get them both, and their roster is currently in shambles.

With the Trailblazers losing most of their starting lineup it looks like they will likely keep their 1st next year, however if they can sign Monroe, and maybe resign Lopez, that team may have enough young talent that can develop into a playoff team in the next 2 years.

The grizzlies pick could be a couple of years away, but as their guys decline it could come in 2017 and be a late lotto pick as they do not seem to draft real well and they do not have much luck getting free agents.

My guesses:

We never pick-swap with NY. They suck, but they won't be trying to lose, and they play in a joke of a conference. Completely feasible they make the playoffs next year if they are able to add a piece or too. They won't be shutting guys down late in the season just because. I envision both teams being in the 10-15 range next year.

Portland sends us two seconds. Unless they're able to replace Aldridge with a Monroe type.

Memphis sends us their 2017, probably in the 20ish range.

I think that Knicks pick is one of our most attractive assets right now even with the East being a joke. I'm hoping the Knicks go all in for Aldridge and Monroe and hopefully fail on both. If that happens, I think they pack it up and save money for 2016 Free Agency.

Even if they get Monroe (likeliest scenario) I don't see that as much of an ugrade from last years roster.

Props to Rebel. I think the rest of the people on here (mainly on the general board and other non Nuggets boards) are finally realizing that you were correct about contracts jumping up drastically and alot of our player contracts looking very good. Faried in particular looks like a great deal. Hell Carroll is going to be making more than Ty for the next few years.

Thank you DaFan, and yes the contracts coming into the NBA shows that the Nuggets contracts were not bad to start with, but reality is they were not bad when signed, there are just plenty of people who do not watch the Nuggets and over the last couple of years have no idea how bad our system was and how underrated our players have become.

Knicks signed the quitter Afflalo for $8 million per, but missed out on Monroe who is going to the Bucks, also West said there is no way he is going to the Knicks, who does that leave for bigs that the Knicks can sign?

KK, RoLo and DJ are the only real talent out there at the C position. Kanter is out there as well but hearing he wants to stay with OKC....Ed Davis ? David West said not way to the Knicks so that's a good thing. They could take on David Lee's contract still.

I would assume they'll bring in a Robin Lopez type defensive center. I know that's something they've been targeting. Ed Davis would certainly fit as well.

That said, that team isn't good. Great for the Nuggets.

OT: If I were the Knicks, I would be dealing Melo. They won't, and I get that. If they can get anything close to superstar value for him, they should absolutely do it. Bring in young players, picks, etc. Give Porzingis playing time. Let him struggle. He needs that. They'll be just as attractive to FAs next year as they would be with Melo (hell, maybe more so).

Reports are that the Knicks did not even offer the max for Monroe, I know in theory he is not really a max deal quality player, in reality is that is the market right now for young good bigs.

The thing that occurred to me is that if he was truly one of their targets, not even understanding the market is going to kill the knicks, nobody is lining up to play for that mess, and if they cannot figure out the market for these guys than they are in for a world of hurt.

Happening in both NY and LA, these franchises think that their history, the bright lights and promise of stardom are what's going to immediately draw free agents to sign with them. Reality is, most of these guys already have their brand in place and are looking more towards winning to help their brands...neither of which the Lakers or Knicks can offer right now.

This....The east is garbage. I know we're quick to dog on Melo on here but he's a great player, he can certainly carry the Knicks to a higher seeding than we'll have in the west.

Looks like Knicks are getting the lesser Lopez brother, still have a long way to go to get a decent team together.

Should have only about $9-10M to spend on a bench. Hopefully 1/2 of that'll go to Barg's, top 3 pick in the lottery !

They still need a PG and a PF on top of a bench, unless they plan on starting Porzingis, which is good for us as very few rookies have any kind of positive impact as a starter.

Am I the only one who is worried about Gary Harris? His shooting was atrocious last season and upon that he averaged a measly 3.4 points off of 30.4% FG. I know rookies need time to develop but I've never heard of someone who improved that much from their rookie season. And I don't know much about his defense, can someone explain to me if he was an asset on the court for that part of his game.

plenty of guys take big steps in year 2 and year 3, but yes the Nuggets are high on him due to his defense. Personally I am not sold on him or barton ever being a quality starter at SG, which is one reason I am hoping if they trade anybody they get a young SG that can shoot.

I've always thought he'd be more of a 6th man type, summer league will show where he's at

Knicks missed out on Brewer, right now they have afflalo, Lopez, and melo as their starters and probably a rookie or 2nd year player at PG and PF, and still no bench. No reason for the Nuggets to dump guys at this point, I do not see that team winning more than 30 games as it is.
