Van Gundy failed with Danny Green

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Wed Jul 1, 2015 11:44 pm

We offered him 11 a year.. I read it somewhere.. I would say that's a failure and not knowing your market..

Sounded like we actually had a meeting with him and blew it. I've been supportive of Van Gundy (even on draft night).. This was an error by him, can't spin it any other way.

Dallas and Detroit both offered him $11M per, and he signed for 4yr/$45M. How is that not knowing your market?

Seriously. We offered the same thing as the market. Maybe Stan didn't want to overpay, maybe Danny wasn't even interested in leaving the Spurs. How is that a failure?

If you believe the Sporting News article that this is coming from they didn't really have a meeting they just talked on the phone. But again this is Sporting News. It's safer to disregard anything they say.

Sounds like he was deal on with his going rate... He just didn't overpay like Toronto did with Carroll. I would bet if we offered $60 million over 4 years he'd be a Piston, but at the same time most fans here would probably be upset with that offer.

Well on NBA TV they said, he could've got more $ from Detroit, they said two other teams too can't remember.

He decided to stay with San Antonio (on a far deal) because they were they team to give him a chance and he has a shot a title.

I'll believe that

Like I said before.. Look through my posts.. I've always supported Van Gundy.. I can vent a little. If Green was our guy, we should have rolled out the red carpet..

Sure if he's the type of player that tips you over the hump...Danny Green is not that player...would be very stupid IMO

SVG didnt meet with Green, they had a meeting scheduled that Green cancelled. They had a phone conversation- sounds like SVG had a weak offer and Green moved on.

Apparently Carroll was the meeting that SVG declined to disclose, obviously whatever SVG's offer was to Carroll was low as well.

Either way, its over with now. Have to hope SVG has more trades up his sleeve

He's not worth $13M per. I'm glad SVG sin't just throwign contracts around to have shiny and new toys. Remember BG/CV free agency? How well did that work out?

From the sounds of it, Detroit did offer slightly more than SA but he took less money to stay home... it seems like Detroit likely offered $48 million over 4.

But we don't know that he was our guy. By all accounts, it was only recently that he and Carroll were even on our radar. It's always been Harris/Draymond. So why overpay for someone that the organization wasn't even high on? So we'd have a headline to discuss right now? :-?

Throwing money at players just to make a splash. Really didn't think that needed explaining.

all we need is just a back up center. and back up SF. thats all.
