A lot of great players bypass the Spurs. I can't think of a big name free agent to sign there in recent memory. Sure, they've got some good players, but at least 2 will be retiring very soon (not sure how much longer Parker can go, either). They've got some good young players, but so do the Suns.

The Suns have a lot to offer. The one thing Phoenix can offer which San Antonio cannot is the chance for Aldridge to be 'the man'. In San Antonio, he'd be another player. Also, overall, Phoenix is much younger and plays an up-tempo style. I think Aldridge's game plays more to that than San Antonio's slow, methodical pace.

And finally, if he wins a title in San Antonio, they'll just hang it with the others and everyone will go on their way. If he miraculously wins a title in Phoenix, he will immediately become the most popular Arizona sports player ever and they'll rename the arena, the team and the city after him.

Was perplexed with nothing linking them and price but But he'll provide a presence lacking in the middle. Len only plays 20+ mins anyway, has had injury issues still young, Chandler could also be a mentor to him. Also, seeing what the plan is to do if it makes a difference with LMA and unless McD has something else up his sleeve to free cap. Go for it. Regardless earlier points remain.

na I don't love it either.... unless it the first domino in getting Aldridge

This. If it lands us LMA that's great - if not, this deal is average at best.

If Suns fail to get Aldridge and Chandler doesnt move the needle next season... as in Suns still hover around 0.500.... the deal won't look as good as it is now.

Sun agree to terms with Tyson Chandler

Great move either with Lma or without. It grounds the team with vet leadership keeps in line the Morrii and mentors not just Len but the whole team into playing defense. And offsets Kieff weakness in starting unit.

After this signing how would Suns have enough cap room to signs Aldridge?

This.

I've loved Chandler for a long time and really wish they could've paired him with Amar'e back in the day but signing him now at 4 years to a treadmill team is scary.

I see a lot of positives in the move. Great mentor for the team and especially Len. He will love our training staff. He's very tradeable (barring him breaking down rapidly at his age like big men tend to do).

Everything always boils down to Sarver refusing to rebuild. If they win the summer and sign a star he'll look like a genius. If we're 40 games into next season and Chandler is in a suit and the team is hovering around .500 with no chance at a franchise player in the draft and terrible cap flexibility, the impatience of the owner starts to get beyond frustrating to the point of hopelessness.

I would prefer that contract over Chandler's 1000 times :(

Only explanation is that Aldridge agreed to sign with Suns if they also sign Chandler. This or McD lost his mind.

You can have a whole team of Wrights and get dick in the playoffs.
Wright isn't getting you anywhere. Chandler has at least a 2 years as a starter in him and hopefully the remaining 2 off the bench having officially rung in Alex Len. It costs money to bring in these players and PHX will pretty much always have to overpay when it comes to All Star level talent -- even on the downswing of their career. We've never had defensive stopping team and after having watched GSW, our roster looking similarly for versatility, being able to create turnovers and fast break points, and 3 & D dynamics.
What was so clear last year for me was watching how all our players' passion ran down the drain and spilled over the whole goddamned place with little result on winning close games. Chandler gives real focus to our young ass players to put to good use everyone's passion.

I think it was Bill Simmons who shared how his favorite thing to watch during Dragic's big run during 2013-14 was how the SUNS came out every night looking to just torch every opponent. I think We can get back to that level all around.
Bledsoe
Knight
Tucker
Kieff
Chandler
are all one helluva starting unit who can close out on shooters on the perimeter and challenge people in the paint. And we'll see how Warren and the new kid all turn out cuz there will be some open shots to be had. One of the most painful to watch aspects of the suns is how pussy they are on the glass, that's something which can change.

It'll be really nice to have a defensive anchor. And as usual, don't forget it's July 1st. There's more to be done here. No point in posting your roster lineups at all right now.

I'm still the only one who remembers that Bledsoe sucks and this 2 point guard crap isn't gonna work unless one of them is named steph curry, I guess.

I like the Knight signing, and I like this one. Haters will see how beast Chandler is as an anchor down low. He can go from playing 30 minutes to 26 to 22 to 18 for his four year contract, throwing Len the difference.

Gotta get the twins out, McD. They just gotta go.

A good signing regardless if the LMA trade works out. Have the Suns ever had a DYOP? Cheap contract compared to what some players are getting and will really look like a deal next year and the year after.

I don't think even your med staff can make him serviceable for whole 4 years. I hope the last year is a team option and you guys only play him around 22-24 mpg so Len still gets the chance to develope.

I imagine they will split minutes about evenly and hopefully their injuries are staggered.

This is going to be the worst FA signing between any team this offseason if LMA doesn't jump aboard.
Wright getting 3/18.

Chandler has 2 years max.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.

Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

No who ever signs Reggie Jackson to a max contract or Michael Beasley to a minimum contract will be amongst the worst signings lmao.

The Suns just made their boldest free agent signing in many years and some fans are still complaining. I am ecstatic the Suns did this. Newsflash. The cap is about to rise to 90 million dollars next year. Then it will be even higher the following year at 105 million. Even if the cap was not going up I would still be happy about this signing. Plus why are people so concerned with his age? He is not turning 33 until October. He is still incredibly productive. And the Suns have the best medical staff in sports. Chandler averaged 10 pts, 11.5 rbs, and over 1 blk last season. When was the last time the Suns had a player that averaged that many rebounds for an entire season? His defense is still All-NBA caliber. I am really excited about this move.

This is a move for the locker room as much as it is for the court. Makes sense either way, even though it is probably too long.

Len has a mentor, the team has a respected veteran that will build team chemistry again and he will be pretty solid on the court for what the Suns need out of a centre. Rebounding, defending, dunks etc..

It doesn't change the fact that Len is still the future. It takes pressure off of him and his body for a little while longer.

Like Lowe said, next year EVERYONE will have tons of cap space. It's more unlikely we win free agency then and to get all star level players, you need some vets.

Everyone is getting overpaid when you think of the current cap. If Chandler is taking up 15% of the cap for us, it's not that bad.
