Jamal is likely available. The word the other day was that the Clippers wanted to add a true point guard that could work with both Stephenson and Rivers. There's a rumor that the Cavs have interest in him. They have Haywood's non-guaranteed contract to work with. Maybe a multi-team deal?

David West would have to give up a lot of money to come here, and that's pretty hard to imagine that he'd be willing to take that big of a pay cut (~$12M to the minimum). If DJ re-signs, then that basically takes away the option of us receiving a player through S&T.

David West Similarly Motivated as Paul Pierce

Post#345 » by Ranma » Thu Jul 2, 2015 6:31 am

West would indeed be a great get for the Clippers, especially given his previous relationship with Chris Paul, but I have doubts that we'd be in serious consideration over other contenders who would be in pursuit of him. Like mkwest said, he'd not only have to take a severe paycut but I suspect the presence of Lance Stephenson would be another con for him. In a recent article West came to Roy Hibbert's defense and the rumored turmoil in the Pacers' lockerroom seemed to center around Stephenson with Hibbert practically calling Lance out publicly even as he didn't mention him by name. Maybe CP3 and Pierce's presence counteracts that sentiment.

San Antonio would make a lot of sense but with the re-signing of its free agents and the likelihood of getting LaMarcus Aldridge, there wouldn't be any room for him. Would Cleveland fit the bill? Or the Thunder? A sign-and-trade involving Crawford maybe packaged with Wilcox/Rivers might be enough to get West here.

Bob Kravitz, WTHR Sports (7/1/15)
There are a number of reasons, both big and small, why David West opted out of a contract that would have paid him $12.6 million to play this coming season for the Pacers, but this was the biggest one:

He didn't think he could win a championship in Indiana, not this year, and not in the near future.

"At this point in my career, I just want to win," West told WTHR.com in an exclusive interview Wednesday night. "I'm just not sure the Pacers are in title contention right now. I'm going into my 13th season. I'll be 35 soon. When I got to Indiana, there was hope of getting there and we played at a really high level for a couple of years. But I just don't know if the team is in the position to win right now and I didn't know if I'd have that opportunity to win a title if I'd stayed with the Pacers."
...

"At this point in my career, it's all about winning, and again, I don't want to be in a position where we're just fighting to make the playoffs, I want to be in a spot where we can legitimately taste the finals," West said.

Then there was this: You remember the post-season postmortem when Larry Bird all but begged Roy Hibbert to opt out of the final year of his contract? West was watching. West was listening. And West was seething. He thought it was a low-class move by the organization to, in his words, "throw Roy under the bus."
...

"But that was not the straw that broke the camel's back.

"I just watched those finals, and I thought, 'Man, I've got to give myself a chance.' That's the reason I made this decision.‘'

West said he's heard from a handful of teams interested in his services, but wouldn't specify which ones. He's probably looking at less annual money, albeit a longer-term deal, to play for a contender, but if it was all about money, he would have gone to Boston several years ago rather than choosing to join the Pacers.

"Absolutely, it was not a financial decision, and that's what so perplexing to people," West said. "I just want an opportunity to win it all. We tried it in Indiana a couple of years; I was really, really disappointed when Paul got hurt, but I just felt like the window was slammed shut. I had some opportunities when I could have been traded last year, but I said no, I wasn't going to abandon the guys like that. I'm not built that way. I stuck it out."

West Willing to Sign for Vet Minimum?

Post#347 » by Ranma » Thu Jul 2, 2015 8:06 am

While the Clippers would still be at least 3rd in preference, if David West is okay with playing on a vet minimum deal, then we may actually have a shot at having him come aboard joining good buddy Chris Paul even despite Lance Stephenson. It even sounds like he's looking towards the Western Conference over the Eastern Conference for a chance to play for a championship contender. Still, both the Spurs and Warriors present more attractive situations even if money is not the primary concern.

Sam Amick, USA TODAY Sports (7/2/15)
According to a person with knowledge of his situation, the free agent forward who declined a $12.2 million player option to stay with the Indiana Pacers next season, has serious interest in playing for the San Antonio Spurs or the Golden State Warriors. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the free agency process.

West, the 34-year-old who was an All Star while with the New Orleans Hornets in 2008 and 2009, would have to take a veteran's minimum deal to play with the Warriors ($1.49 million annually) and would likely take a significant pay cut to play for the Spurs. But as he told WTHR's Bob Kravitz in an interview on Wednesday, he is hell-bent on playing for a contender.

Doesn't really make a lot of sense if it's about Aminu though, I think it probably was about a possible offer for him that was not on the table yet, and he kinda f*cked up by thinking out loud on twitter. I've been saying for a while that I hope he gets a better offer and leaves, for the better of both him and us. With him, we already have 3 SG's whose only attribute is on-ball creating, hopefully we're left with only one when training camp comes around. Rather have a dude like CJ Watson or Luke Ridnour (considering Jameer unrealistic), who can play off the ball with Lance in the 2nd unit, than him.

man that would be the dream, huh?

even if he hated lance i am positive he could get over that to play with cp3. and all of that would be incredible for lance.

with cp3, west, and pierce all on the same team there is pretty much no way lance doesn't play like a mini all star. we gotta get david west!

^ the dream would be to swap Jamal for West in a sign-and-trade. But that won't and can't happen.

we could still pray for west to join us for 1 year on the VM and for crawford to be moved for a backup 5 of some sort.

fk amare. seriously. i just cannot stand him. reading that doesn't help.

also, subtle things are slightly breaking in our favor. kings got fleeced by hinkie cause they were convinced they can do big things next year with a big FA signing. they wanted monta, but monta went to pacers for 4/44.

meanwhile, dallas seems to have been selling DJ on a DJ/parsons/dirk/wes matthews core. however, with monta bowing out, it sounds like the kings are gonna throw BIG money at matthews. if he takes it, that core is no longer and DJ might be inclined to stay away from what would be a competitive lineup.

guess we will see.

Dude, your dad basically saved you from playing in Europe a la Jordan Farmar. You have a couple of good games and, all of a sudden, you think you're big-time? Whatever...I wasn't really keen on having him back. I'd love to use him as a trade asset to bring us something more useful in return.

mmm well, if he's being offered MLE money right now he should take it. he showed some flashes during the playoffs so even if he feels some loyalty, as an occasional flash in the pan type player i couldn't blame him for taking 3/15M or something if it were offered.

i'd like him back but at least i have to respect a smart life decision lol

If Austin wants to still play with us even after seeing what's out there all he has to do is tell his dad. (Sorry for the run on sentence.)
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!
