If I am Monroe why not come to Milwaukee for 3 years and then assess what the Knicks squad looks like?

Are people really advocating we go back to tanking next year? I don't think anyone wants that, so why wouldn't you try to upgrade without mortgaging the future? Monroe, while not perfect, would be a clear upgrade over Henson/Pachulia. The Bucks have the cap space, so why not keep upgrading the roster?

Meh, We had 8 of those guys? I think we drafted 3 of those, which means we got good value for them in a bad draft. Martin was signed under the new area. And a couple others were min FAs. I would say 90% of teams had at least 8 of these at some point considering they were mostly journey men.

Redd, Martin, Magloire, Pryzbilla, Mason, House, Dooling, offered full MLE to Thomas, Voskuhl, Brezec, Hart.

Does anyone actually think Koufos is a starter though? He does some nice things (movement without the ball, nice passing) but I still think Henson will start if those two were our center rotation. I wouldn't mind seeing Koufos play with Vasquez though.

Monroe isn't perfect for a variety of reasons, but if he was better defensively or more athletic or had a reliable 15 footer, he probably wouldn't be on the market right now.

Whether you like Vaughn or not, you have to be encouraged that we still drafted that young. Trading that pick for a vet would have been the Kohl move.

People acting like going all in on Monroe is a Kohl move, yet he is 5 years younger than our starting center and about the same age as Henson. And of course people weren't screaming to hand out max contracts a month ago, nobody anticipated the market to be this crazy. I mean honestly, basically every center on the market is getting a max, or way more than we'd expect for way longer than we would expect.

I think the not playing next to Drummond factor is big as well. Monroe is a C and there were few worse fits next to him than Drummond. Monroe's numbers without Drummond were great across the board.

Philly is kinda reminding me of the Cubs. Sell your fans a slow rebuild, while taking a Moneyball esque approach. Then after youve accumulated your young players and assets you can use other avenues like trades and free agency to finish off your team. Sad thing is that could be us, but we'd be even further along because we have Giannis and Jabari.

I also don't get the leverage angle. What is that conversation like?

"We offer you the max amount we can offer you." - New York
"I want more or I will go to Milwaukee!" - Monroe
"... We literally cannot offer you more money. We are offering you the most money that we possibly can." - New York
"DON'T MAKE ME GO TO MILWAUKEE!!!!" - Monroe

More like

Monroe: "I really don't want to go to Milwaukee, why hasn't New York made an offer yet?"
Falk: "They are going after Jordan and LMA, but if that fails then they would like to sign you."
Monroe: " Well tell them to hurry up and make a decision."
Falk: " I will put it out there that you are considering Milwaukee and Portland. Maybe that will get New York to pull the trigger sooner."
Monroe: "Agent F, you da best!"

Bingo.

If every team is offering him the same max deal, there would be no need to use a team as leverage.

Sure there would, he might want to get to a specific team or market....if you don't sign on your first round of initial offers, assuming they are max, you are waiting for dominoes to fall hoping you can get to the team/market you want

You make it sound like he doesn't want to be here because he hasn't signed, when there are options he himself has to consider when it comes to the type of deal he actually wants. We heard Jimmy Butler wanted a shorter deal for the last month and he agrees to a 5 year deal and takes the security on Day 1. Do you make all of your big decisions in a knee jerk fashion? Team situation, taxes, number of years, options, etc. aren't exactly details you just ignore and put your name on the dotted line. Options are mulled over all of the time. There's plenty of gray, it's not the black and white decision you're making it out to be. He may very well think Milwaukee is his best option and there are a few details in the contract that he needs to decide on or he could think there's a better situation on pending free agency factors elsewhere.

Jumping to using us as leverage is off base.

That's what I was saying last night.

Well, if you said a sign & trade for Ersan then i think some of us would have agreed on that.

The Philly model is still very far away from producing. With that culture they won't get a free agent and nobody wanted to be drafted by them. Their players haven't really developed and their best asset has longterm injury risks.

Could it work? Yes. At some point I need to see them start turning the corner or it will be a disaster.

Exactly. And abandoning your plan because you made the playoffs is stupid.

What do you suggest they do? We won 41 games playing our core players majority of the minutes minus Jabari because he got hurt. We were the second youngest team in the league last year. We also just drafted the second youngest player in the draft I believe. In the East we are going to continue to make the playoffs whether we go out and sign someone or not, the East is that bad and our young core is that good. If you can add a good center in free agency while we have a lot of cap space in comparison to other teams why wouldn't you?

I'm with you on the Vasquez trade because I thought it was dumb for many reasons but as long as our core players get most of the playing time and we continue to win I don't know how you can get upset with that.

Stop making sense. That has no place here....

How anyone could think we somehow aren't working towards the future despite having a starting lineup all 25 or younger (if we get Monroe of course) and one that has nothing but BIG upside left with Jabari/Giannis and to a lesser extent MCW, Middleton and Monroe is a little beyond me at this point.

PG: MCW/Bayless/Vasquez/Ennis
SG: Middleton/Mayo/Bayless/Vaughn
SF: Parker/Dudley
PF: Giannis/Henson/Dudley
C: Monroe/Henson/ZaZa

Yes the Vasquez trade sucked but it's not a killer. There's plenty of young talent to build around. With added development from Giannis, Parker and Middleton + marginal gains for MCW even minus Monroe for us to miss the playoffs and get a HIGH pick it would involve shipping off pretty much literally every other player on the team and replacing them with D leaguers in the East and even then it very well might not be enough.

If that's what people are advocating for then I guess I'll simply say good day and go about enjoying watching winning basketball while also watching Parker and Giannis develop into studs while others complain about "the road not taken"

If we land Monroe, players 25 or younger next year:

MCW
Middleton
Parker
Giannis
Monroe
Henson
Inglis
Ennis
Vaughn
JOB

Only two of those players have large contracts. Of the veterans, Bayless/Mayo/Pachulia/Plumlee/Dudley/Vasquez are all expiring. Just reiterating again that this is nothing like the Kohl era.

We will sign Monroe.

Leverage and domino things are not relevant in this situation. Monroe's choices - with contract and money identical - He said in interview his agent said consider carefully what's important - winning? where u live? team-mates or coaches?

where u live - Monroe never complained about cold in Detroit or ever brought it up now
coach - we have an advantage there with Kidd
team-mates - mix of young & old guys who have chemistry and no egos'
winning - we did more of that than Knix and Lakers already

AND

Portland w/o LMA and Matthews and Batum? No winning there.

Knicks = loosers for years - Carmello getting old - if Monroe said yes Knix would jump - Knix are not waiting for anybody over anybody else - they are waiting for anybody at all-

Lakers - suck and Kobe ties up too much $

Suns - got Chandler

Rockets - reports are they will only clear cap space for LMA

I only see two threats

Clippers - ID DJ goes elsewhere

Spurs - IF they don't get LMA

IF we don't sign Monroe - then

I like KOQ but I think Magic will resign.
Ropez is OK but I think he will be more expensive and not much better than Koufos.

Koufos and rebounding 3pt shooting PF Davis would work for me

While Aldridge met with the Blazers on Wednesday and general manager Neil Olshey has continued to express confidence publicly, it's never seemed likely that Aldridge will return to the only franchise he's ever known.

Assistant coach Kim Hughes admitted as much in an interview with WTHI-TV on Wednesday, saying: "Well, people don't realize we just went young. We didn't publicize it, but we lost LaMarcus Aldridge. It hasn't been declared yet, but I'm sure he won't come back. We will go young."

Is Monroe considering replacing Aldridge? If not this would be very good for the Bucks' chances of getting him.

This is why I'm not on board with the plan "C" stuff about Koufo's, O'Quinn, etc. I know our two remaining guys Rolo and Monroe aren't perfect, but they are clear cut starters. The other guys are more stopgap in nature.

We won't have this market and contract leverage at any point in the next two years. Play the cards now and take the gamble.
