Bismack Biyombo
Now that Monta Ellis is on board. Bismack Biyombo would be an interesting target if we can somehow unload Roy. He's 6-9, excellent shot blocker and rebounder and hes only 22. He made a little over 2 mil last year so the Pacers could get him cheap. Thoughts

I'd say he or Jeff Withey are certainly backup options, especially if we want another rim protector, and one with a big body.
If we think that Turner can play the 4 in this lineup, then we'd definitely need someone. Or, even if he's a pure 5, we could use a 3rd body, and use Lavoy solely as a 4.
Certainly, options are out there.

As a backup can we afford to pay Bismack 10-12 per? Do you think he could eventually start next to Miles?
The only way I'd want Bismack is if his impact is similar to Feisty's as an enforcer. I don't think that would be the case though.

I'd be insanely shocked if Bismack got that offer. The reason Bismack is unrestricted is because Charlotte thought that his Qualifying Offer of around $5m was more than he was worth and would get on the market, and was afraid he would sign it immediately.
I know that free agency has thrown around higher numbers than expected, but Biyombo's absolute lack of ANY offensive skill limits him more than most. Over the last 2 years, Biyombo has touched the ball less per minute than any other player in the NBA. He's a liability to even touch the ball.
I think he maxes out at around $3.5m. Someone's Room Exception or taxpayer MLE.

We dont have to pay Biyombo that much seeing he only made 2 mil last year. Id say get him for $3-4 mil and let turner play behind ian, lavoy, and biyombo

Re: Bismack Biyombo
let's wait to see how they use Turner and Whittington in the summer league. will either play the 4 in Orlando? will they be on the court together? our front court needs will be a lot clearer in two weeks.

Boy, I'd be shocked if Whittington could be counted on as answering a need for us in the regular season in any way.

I think all of you are going to be shocked at how much BB will get. Honestly, I think 8 is his absolute floor.

Re: Bismack Biyombo
I agree, Whittington is a third string big. Bismack is still young and is a great rim protector who's reliable in that role.

you could be right but the sample size is pretty small.

That's exactly why I would be completely shocked if we went into the year depending on Whittington to answer a need for us.

I am quite intrigued by this fella, defensively he could do a job.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

He's one of the most mobile big men in the game. He makes a few bonehead plays, but with time and coaching he'd get it together. He's also one of the best big men I've seen at covering the pick and roll. He makes sense as a center in a small-ball line-up.

He's 100% defense only. Not in a "oh, he's bad offensively" kind of way. In a "he can't even touch or be around the ball in any way, just have him cherry pick on defense and stay out of the way" kind of way.

I'd grab him at $3.5 and give him 3 yrs 3rd yr non guaranteed or partially. He's still very raw and could get a lot better with some playing time.

Mostly agreed. I'd try for Withey first, for half that salary, as he also can touch the ball, though he's less athletic than Biyombo. But, something similar to Lavoy's deal? I wouldn't hate it.

Re: Bismack Biyombo
BB hasn't shown me much since he was a work out warrior in the weeks before he was drafted.
I think a team needs 5 guys who can defend the post. we have Hibbert, Mahinmi, Turner, Allen, and question marks. I think Whittington has a chance (yes, Scoot, small sample size but you could have said that about Solo this time last year and I'm looking for a fifth big not a starter) depending on what we see in Orlando. I'd like to see Scola back and if Roy gets moved without a big coming back I'd want to use whatever cap room that gives us on Scola or better yet split between Scola and Stuckey.

Oh, I think Whittington makes the roster, but as the 15th guy (6th or 7th big man), just not as an "answer to the PF position". As for Solo? Yeah, small sample size before this year, but also, invested a 1st round pick, and we had no other option with the injury to PG well after free agency was over. We have options at PF/C now.
Unless we move Roy before the moratorium is over for cap space, or move him in a Dallas S&T for Ellis, we'll have to renounce Scola to sign Ellis using cap space (or if we use cap space on a Koufos type signing after a Roy/Ellis S&T). After that, I'm not sure Scola will sign for the room exception, and highly doubt he'll sign for the vet minimum. Ultimately, I think Bird signed Lavoy over Scola. I wouldn't hate bringing him back, but just see circumstances pulling him away.

I'm not suggesting he should get 30 minutes a night but if he does well in Orlando he might have a shot at being the 5th big and get more than garbage time minutes. I'm on vacation next week, but I've got the summer league games set to record. I'll be interested to see how they use him there.
