Why.............they have a $5 million trade exception from the Dragic deal, that and the aforementioned players get them into striking distance. The easiest thing would be to do a S&T with Portland if they were willing.

Trade exception cant be stacked on top of players salaries.
Exceptions can only be used by themselves

Sure it can, not in a one-on-one trade but if you involve a third team in a deal you can essentially do just that, it becomes more complicated but it has happened before.

Sure, but how would that help us shed salary?

Say we don't get Aldridge. There is no way that the twins haven't heard the news of us trying to get em. Which means, they probably knew they were on the chopping block had it happened. You think they'll be disgruntled playing for us? You know these guys get mad about everything, lol.

Tell them to put up or shut up. They're not of the calibre of players to have a say on how the roster is built. Of course they are expendable

Agreed. Tell them that they should tread quietly. If they don't ship their asses out ASAP.

So Lamarcus has only 9 years of experience. The max salary for a player with 9 years is roughly $18.9M. Incoming salary can be $5M more than the outgoing salary in a trade for him. So we would need to move about $13.9M to sign Aldridge. Maybe we can work a reasonable deal with Portland where they get the Morri and one more young player plus a few draft picks for LMA. Get to keep Len, Warren, Granger, Booker, Tucker, etc

Doesn't the exception essentially count as a cap hold until you renounce it? I was thinking that in a S&T, it allows one more asset or player to be sent to Portland.

P.J. Tucker, having played with LMA in college, should have been at the recruitment pitch, that he wasn't speaks volumes to me. He's a goner along with the lesser Morris along with some picks thrown in if LMA were to choose Phoenix......still unlikely.

I thought that too... but then, i also thought that it is very possible that Tucker missed the plane/bus. If that really happened, would you be surprised?

I don't see how we get LMA and Chandler without giving up Tucker and the twins. We may even have to ship Len.

Double sign and trade with Portland.

Earl Barron (or Green/Thornton) at $15M/1year + picks for LaMarcus. Easy.

Nope. This was posted a few pages back, and should probably be posted every few pages, but this is a necessary read:

http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2015/7/2/8881977/phoenix-suns-chandler-aldridge-cap-magic

Two routes: we either clear the capspace to sign both of them outright, or we do sign and trades.

Either way, 15-17 milllion in salaries need to go OUT from our side. That's Morris twins(13) + filler.

Fine, in this case make 2 double sign and trades. Earl for Tyson to Dallas and Gerald for LMA to Portland. We have a lot of picks to trade.

http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2015/7/2/8882165/signing-tyson-chandler-is-a-bad-decision-regardless-of-aldridge

Interesting take if you want to take the flip side approach of having Chandler or Chandler/Aldridge.

Have to admit he makes valid points.

Unless we S&T our assets and shed only 9-10M, if we have to shed 18M and get rid of the Morris Brothers, Tucker, Granger, etc, who will come off the bench and be productive for us?

How will we have the money to field a productive bench?

We can hope for internal improvement from the young guys (Goodwin, Warren, Len, Bullock, Booker) but ultimately signing LMA might not have us crack the top 4 in the west.

Ultimately since we signed Chandler, we now are an 8 seed maybe a 7 seed if Knight/Bledsoe meshes well, we might as well go for it and try to get Aldridge which puts us at a 4-5 seed and see what happens.

If we could shed salary, sign Aldridge, and sign Amar'e to a short term deal and maybe one more vet I'd be happy with that.

Hmm I read somewhere it was 20.3.
