Kings offer Wes Matthews 3yr $45M; UPDATE: Now 4yr $64M #YOLO

Post#1 » by City of Trees » Fri Jul 3, 2015 1:37 am

EDIT UPDATE:

@ESPNSteinLine: Wes Matthews Update: Sacramento offer to free-agent swingman is actually four-year deal at $16 million annually for total of $64 million

@ESPNSteinLine: But ESPN sources say Dallas is Wes Matthews' preferred destination -- over both Kings and Raptors -- and that Mavs are favorites to land him

Yeah. There is no plan. This is shooting in the dark.

Who is even left?

You can argue that Beverly and building a solid bench is worth it because our bench was the main problem last year (besides health) but that's quite a price to pay for role players.

Seriously who is even left? We are going to end up trading the pick sauce and the swaps for rondo josh smith and mediocrity.

At this point I would have greatly preferred trading cousins to the lakers or whoever for picks and young players and rebuilt. What is going to end up happening is in two years gay and DMC will be dumped for picks and players and we go back to step one. It's just insane.

Focus should be a Max offer for Tobias Harris. Make the magic match.

If we lose out on Mathews our best bet is a max offer to Harris followed by the remainder of our cap offered to Brewer/Beverly/Teletovic types. The problem with offering Harris the max is it ties our cap up for three days until Orlando renders a decision. Three days from now there could really be no one left.

You make the trade for wins. Not for names on a jersey. But boy I'm not even going to watch ESPN for like 2 months

Our offer is being left out there for leverage

I assumed when the trade was made frameworks were worked out before hand

Vlade is a rookie and may or may not be suitable at this level

You don't make this trade for role players. I agree on jersey names, but when you make this kind of deal, you better be damn sure you are finding the right guys who will get this team into the playoffs.

We're screwed. Absolutely screwed. Wes Matthews was the only player this was worth. We are simply not going to be a good basketball team next year.

The difference in being good or not is not Wes Matthews. He'd help, no question, but they are at least looking for need players from the looks of it. Outside of Ellis of course. Karl can go suck it on that 2 PG crap if that was his idea.

3/45? Dude probably wants that 4th year. At this point, just give it to him -- 4/60. Maybe 4/65 if he really pushes.

But of he still insists for more, tell him to blow it out of his own ass!

He isn't really worth that coming off an Achilles though. If he doesn't regain form and we have that money tied up with him it could be disastrous

I know he isn't but this is Sacramento tax included. There is no way FAs will entertain to play in Sacramento unless there is an overpay involved. :banghead:

I think, after calming a bit, with Matthews injury, it may not supposed happen if it doesn't

The trade, I still think there is a good chance the swaps are never utilized as we have a better core in the next several years, we just need to find ~16 of value worth more than a conditional first and Stauskas, if possible

Youre right. But it just doesn't feel good when you target two players with all your cap space and both of them say no after making a trade that probably could have been done at any time and probably shouldn't have been done until you had a commitment from a player.

You don't leave town without a deal. If he was coming here he would have signed. He isn't coming here.

Now, what's the contingency plan?

Too much for his injury IMO, can't imagine Mavs touch it.

Whoa, if he didn't take that immediately and is leveraging for more money if he eventually comes to sign that deal Vlade should have cameras waiting to bust out and then go "you got punked!" haha.

Return to Sacramento Kings
