Jeanie: Jim will resign if rebuild fails

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Fri Jul 3, 2015 2:30 am

When asked about that deadline in a radio appearance with KPCC on Thursday, Jeanie Buss reiterated that timeline is still in place and if the Lakers don't reach their goals by then, she's ready for change.

"Yeah, absolutely," Buss said. "This is my job. I'm part-owner of the team, but I'm also the president. The Buss family is the majority owner but we have other partners as well who are also shareholders, and I have an obligation to them. Would I make those changes? Yes. My brother understands that we have to continue to strive for greatness and I think he would be the first one to feel that he would need to step down if he can't get us to that point."

I'd be wary of Baxter Holmes, he's the one who took the time to dug up that Nance Jr. Tweet and made a big fuss about it

It'll go back to being Mitch, just like before.

Hopefully she holds herself responsible as well for giving Kobe that ridiculous contract.

You don't need a confession to know who pushed for it if you know anything about Jeanie. She has been the most adamant about defending this contract and not being able to separate the emotional connection she feels to the players compared to the business side. Saying it's a contract that they somehow owed to Kobe. Here's another comment she made regarding this back in late 2014 and quoted by USA Today Sports. "“Kobe is worth every penny, and I’d never had any doubt that he’d contribute to this team,” Jeanie Buss said. “We have a (salary) cap, but we also have a (salary) floor, and you do have to spend it. This is a team that’s paying $10 million (this season) to Steve Nash, and $9 million to Jordan Hill, so we have those two players for $19 million, so Kobe for $24 million sounds pretty good. Especially since the $10 million player isn’t going to play for us this year (Nash is out for the season, and likely his career, because of a recurring back problem).”" written by Sam Amick

since we're spending 19 million on Nash and Hill, 24 million sounds like a good deal for Kobe.

First we take out Jimbo. Then we eliminate Holmes. Who's with me?

If Jim resigns I hope Heanie does the same. She's got as many issues as Jim.

I think Jeanie is the face, that personality we are missing when discussing why a grown man should decide to move his family to LA to play for the Lakers as its clear Jimmy is not that guy and Mitch is not either. Mitch has his strengths but he has no personality.

Before we had Jerry West and Dr. Buss ....both very gregarious personalities in their own right. But also both had the honesty factor going on regardless if it were warranted ...players simply trusted those guys and partly based on a track record.

Now the guys sitting at the table trying to woo free agents dont have the track record
(they do but these young guys cant remember back that far)
I seriously think we simply need a good face that players today respect and perhaps are even in "AWE" of

Yeah thats simplified.....Thats not all we need, but i think Jim and Mitch are trying their best and what we all are seeing is
"It just aint enough"

My personal opinion ...im not mad all of the guys we went after shunned us, as i dont like any of them for where we are right now anyway. We are a few players away from an 8th seed the coming season and perhaps 2nd or 3rd round the year after that. So why stress out about adding guys who are gonna be kicking tires on pedestrian scooters in the next few years.

Say no to DAJ, Say no to LMA.....We are not competing for a championship for at least a few years at least

IIRC Jeanie is just holding Jim to his word. Jim stuck his own foot in his mouth.

if you follow baxter holme's tweets you'll see what moonpie and ty mean, i know because I see his tweets too and he always throws little jabs at the lakers yet likes to cover them
2014: Randle / Clarkson
2015: Russell / Nance
2016: Ingram / Zubac
2017: Top 3 Pick? Fultz, Ball or Bust

since when did this conversation involve Jim? I made a statement asking that Jeanie take her own responsibility. You asked me to elaborate on my opinion. I did. Now you're asking me about Jim instead.
