Suns History 101: Lesson 1 - Top playoff shots of all time

Post#1 » by bigfoot » Fri Jul 3, 2015 4:21 am

I'd think it would be nice to have our fans revisit some of the new and old Suns history we've seen over the past 40+ years. We can run the lesson for two weeks. The first week folks post videos/articles relative to the lesson. In the second week we run a poll to choose the favorite (or most hated) part of the lesson. For example,

Favorite Suns playoff shot
Most hated Suns playoff shot
Best Suns performance in a playoff game
Top Suns block

Hopefully our Mods can pick the top 10 for the poll

We can start out with the Favorite Suns shot ... I've always loved this one by Barkley in Game Six over the Spurs.

I looked for one in 2003, either Marbury or Stoudemire hit a game winner at the end, but they both hit huge shots near the end. But here is my most memorable moment, probably because I was at the game, but it wasn't a winner, but one to tie...Zero Tolerance actually posted it in another thread.

Great shots and memories already posted. Rex's shot came to mind immediately but I loved Raja's and Tim's.
Steve's shot that tied the game against the mavs was very clutch too.
Of course Amares shot his rookie year was fantastic too.

Steve Nash @ Dallas to force OT in game 6 and won the series.

Tim Thomas @ Lakers, kept us alive in an away game 6, and won game 7 at home.

I was surprised when I didn't see this in the thread. The first basketball game I ever watched with my Dad. This is what turned me into a Suns fans.

It is also worth watching the few minutes that preceded...what a bleeping game.

All of the above.

Then I'd probably say Marbury vs Spurs, and Diaw vs... Mavs?

Easily Gar Heard's shot. It's one of the greatest plays in NBA history, from arguably the greatest game ever played.

This should be a no-brainer.

Yes, but the vast majority of this board probably either were not fans then and/or definitely didn't see it live. I didn't see it live. I wasn't watching the Suns yet then, at least not that I recall.

But you are right, it has to be considered the best or top shot for a Sun. It would be nice if we had a series winning shot like Elie did against us.

agree with both of you. Easily the greatest shot/game ever, put us on the map nationally, but most people here have no knowledge of that shot unfortuantely. ...until now :)

I was like 7, pops was a die hard lakers fan....from la....but hated the celtics and had just moved to phoenix....so we were cheering on phoenix... I rememeber ALL the emotion involved, the fight that followed and of course the heartbreak at the end. It was nuts, and a big reason on why a became a devoted Suns fan in a family full of Laker fan.....You guys don't know the pain I went through as a child and teenager surrounding by laker fans, lol

I was 13, and the 1976 NBA Championship Series (not officially NBA Finals yet) was what got me hooked on basketball.

Maybe not the most historical but the first shot that came to my mind was Rex Chapman's and then Charles Barkley's vs the Spurs.

Also, Westphal called his "shot" with the guarantee :)
