Kenyon Martin, the No. 1 pick of the 2000 NBA draft, told Yahoo Sports he has retired from playing professional basketball.

Martin said he is interested in coaching on the college or NBA level. He also plans to help his 14-year-old son, Kenyon Jr., who is already 6-foot-3½ entering his freshman year at Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif., develop into a basketball star. “I have family time and business ahead,” Martin said. “And if something coaching comes up [basketball-wise], I will consider it. I’m also getting Kenyon, Jr., ready to be the No. 1 pick in a couple of years.”

Crazy career.

Kenyon Martin retires

I remember hanging the newspaper clipping in my bedroom of him on draft night with a tear in his eye, shaking Sterns hand.

The guy was a beast. Bobby Marks on ESPN radio today equated him to Cousins.

What a solid team he was on back then. Sucks we had to face the Lakers and Spurs during their dynasty eras.

Just watched his highlights on youtube. Those were some amazing times. I may even have to bust out my Martin Jersey.

Probably my personal favorite Net of all-time. Loved his tenacity and how he brought the crowd into the game.

I was upset when he left but I agreed that he wasn't worth 7yr/$92mil.
