Yes, but it's not because of the cap. Those rules above only applies to players that we sign or trade for. We can keep Archie and Booker regardless of what the cap is. We can even resign them to hypothetical max deals if they were RFA because we have their rights. That's why we can resign B-Knight to a 70/5 (exceeding the cap) even after Chandler and Aldridge have signed, and why Cleveland can afford three max contracts plus Tristan Thompson at 5/80, Shumpert at 4/40, Haywood at 10, Varejao at another amount.

Not talking about bird rights at all. I'm asking if having 2 mill more in cap space means we can avoid including either in a S&T for Chandler.

For instance, if the extra 2 mil put us "under the cap", we'd have to trade even dollars to remain under the cap, correct?

If the extra 2 mil was there and we were still "over the cap", we'd have to still trade within $5 mil.

So I'm wondering if the extra 2 mil would help us at all. A strict reading of the rules suggests no, but intuitively it should save us from having to get rid of $2 mil.

Oh, my mistake. Sorry. I could be incorrect in all this, but I digress:

I don't see how having 2 million increase in the cap would change what I said two responses ago though. So, Booker or Goodwin would have to be traded in the above scenario to make salaries match. The Suns are under the cap (currently), so for salaries sent out less than 9.8 million$ they can acquire up to 150% of that. The trading with 5 mil ONLY applies to outgoing salaries of 9.8-19.6 million.

In summary,
Leuer + Tucker + Mcneal = 7.38 mil, the maximum incoming salary is 11.07 mil
Leuer + Tucker + Mcneal + Booker = 9.15, the maximum incoming salary is 13.72 mil

Goodwin makes a little less than Booker, so swapping him above in a deal should work as well.

If we trade Morris ($8 million) for Candler in a S&T, Chandler can have a starting salary of $12.1 million that, with 4.5% raises annually, equates to approximately $51.75 million over 4 years. Thats right in line with the reported agreement of 4/$52.

The rule for outgoing salaries of less than $9.8 million is 150% of the outgoing salary plus $100k. The structure of the Chandler deal leads me to believe that the Suns are planning on moving Markieff if Aldridge is signed, not Tucker, Leuer, and Booker. The numbers fit too perfectly.

IF we land Aldridge I will not be surprised if Archie is moved for shooting. We have the trade exception from the Dragic trade available and our bench will lack shooters over the age of 20.

Mavericks are done, they might struggle to field a 40 win team - no C, SG or PG right now. I could see them throwing crazy money at Koufos and maybe a guy like Reggie Jackson and hope DET doesn't match? Could see them going after Stuckey or Mo Williams too.

There's room to make a run at the playoffs - if we don't land LMA I'd throw a max at Tobias Harris, would mean we could keep Kieff I think?

TChandler
Kieff
Harris
Knight
Bledsoe
---
Len
Leuer
Tucker
Warren
Booker
Goodwin
PYoung?

Thin bench...need some vets

I really would play Harris as the 4--next to Len or Chandler, we'd still have plenty of size in the Front Court.

I've mentioned a couple of times, but IMO, we should go hard after Kyle O'Quinn with or without Harris...OORRRR...

Bledsoe, Len, Tucker for Fournier, Harris, O'Quinn--then sign Ish...and a couple of other cheap guys. Have no idea how themoney works with this, though...

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=pof5sjd

Knight/Ish
Goodwin/Fournier/Booker
Harris/Warren
O'Quinn or Kieff/Leuer
Chandler/O'Quinn

You want to trade Bledsoe and Len for THOSE guys? :eek1:

Yeah, you are right, that's too much, without some picks coming back, or maybe...

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nffyfj9

Bledsoe/Kieff/Tucker for O'Quinn/Harris/Aaron Gordon/Fournier

Knight/Ish
Goodwin/Founier/Booker
Harris/Warren
O'Quinn/Gordon
Chandler/Len

EDIT:

Would leave the Magic with:

Bledsoe/Payton
Oladipo/B. Gordon/Marble/Harvey
Tucker/Harkless/Hezonja
Kieff/Frye/Nicholson/Dedmon
Vucevic/Kieff

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich looking for another meeting w LaMarcus Aldridge today or tomorrow, per source.

Insiders expect LaMarcus Aldridge decision won’t drag out much longer. Spurs still feel like he’s going to be in San Antonio.

Expecting the worse (LMA to San Antonio) I am thinking about our second choice with the cap sapce that we have now. After signing Tyson we will have around $8M to sign a good FA....David West? Amare? Koufos? I don't have a favourite.

C'mon, Really? McD would be run out of town if he made those trades.

We got more than $8 million. We have closer to $11 million with the increase in the cap.

west maybe but factoring age and salary I'd rather just have keif and I'm not sure west wants to come and split time with keif. No to koufus, already have 2 centers who need minutes why add a 3rd?? Amare is washed up so would honestly rather just sign some young guy to battle with leuer for the scap minutes at the 4 with keif and len playing the majority of minutes there.

Rather just roll with Kieff if we miss out on LMA. Make him work like hell on his 3 ball.

I'm kinda interested to see Keef paired next to a center of chandler's caliber .

I am almost sure LaMarcus is coming to PHX.
It is a heart thing, but I also believe he would be better here.
We have young guards, two real centrs, some exterior threats and money to spend on new guys next year.
We have PJ, who he is friends with.
The Spurs have Leonard, who has already picked and will not be half as good once Duncan, Diaw and Pops are gone. And Green. Then Parker is decreasing his level a lot (as he already showed this year). Ginobili is almost nobody already. Splitter is gone.

If we fail on LaMarcus, which I believe we will not, the Wizards are shoping Nene. I do not whether we should spend more money this year, but we could get Nene or West and still sign Harris if we trade Markieff, PJ and other small contracts.

If Pop is looking for another meeting, that means LMA is DEFINITELY undecided. Just hope McD secures another meeting as well

if they hadn't added chandler then nene could make sense but now no since nene should play mostly center in today's NBA.

One cheap flyer type idea could be trading a 2nd rounder for Anthony Bennett. Hope you can get him in shape and maybe he can be the bench stretch 4 they are looking for.

Nene is not the answer if LMA does not sign. We need a versatile pf along side Chandler. Markieff would be better. Even Amare would be better.

I think Suns should try for another meeting with LMA asap.

Bring Aaron Nelson & entire staff this time so they can talk to him about what they can do to help him extend his career.
