Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
Well my prediction is coming true. Hopefully they are smart enough to realize Smith isn't needed, and if the plan is to play him at the 3 we are in trouble.
Much rather have brewer. Lou I like a lot though.

Lou may want 9 at least from here. Not ideal but could really anchor second unit. Josh Smith on the other hand..

Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
The plan is not to play him at the 3. Look I'm not a Smith advocate but anybody watching the playoffs this year cannot deny his impact. He'd be the third option on this team.
As for Lou, he's a better fit than Ellis. I don't feel like we could or should have DC/Lou/Rondo on the same roster though which means one has to go. Also defensively at the two we'd still be mediocre. Ben won't be there still defensively to lock on the perimeter and Lou is a 2 guard in a PGs body. To me it's either Lou or Rondo. We'd need to look to shore up the 2/3 spot off the bench.

Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
If Josh Smith comes off the bench and for a decent contract, I'm ok with it. His inefficient chucking habits can be tolerable if that happens, and having a rim protector backing up the rim protector we just drafted is intriguing. Lou with Marco (or Ben) as the backup backcourt is interesting as well.

Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
Smith fits perfectly into what Karl supposedly wants. He can switch and he's a play maker. I still don't like the idea of not having a 3 and D guy at SG and going after more offensively oriented guys looking to create their own offense though. Marco fits but he's no stopper. Not as bad as some think however. I hope Karl knows what he's talking about because play making without shooting ability usually doesn't end too well. This team needs to be about spacing and defense. I guess they could play like the Globetrotters.

Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
Lou is an okay piece to have if it means him coming off the bench and doesn't cost a fortune. He's a bit too isolation-based type of player for my tastes, but hey, good teams always have those shot volume/gun slingers on their bench. So, it may work here.

Smith is fine if he doesn't cost too much either. Only if it doesn't impedes WCS's development.

Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
I'd feel a little better about Lou if Rondo didn't come here. I don't like the idea of Rondo, Collison, and Lou. That's too much to get anything out of it. Lou as a backup to Darren would be nice. I really hope they aren't thinking Rondo AND Lou is an option. The needs have dramatically shifted from PG/SG to SF, PF, and C.

Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
Exactly right. Said the same in another thread. All 3 won't work and one would need to go. So with that it's either Rondo or Lou

Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
If we wind up with a bench of Lou Will/Belly/J. Smith/[insert minimum stiff FA C] I'll be satisfied. That's a lot of mouths to feed though with Cousins/Gay/Smith/Williams all needing the ball.

I really hope this Lou Williams stuff is just for Rondo leverage.

Re: Lou Williams and Josh Smith in town today
I hope we sign neither. Josh is a good dude and a nice player but when he was succeeding in Hou, he had a nurturing coach that could push him by inspiring hope. That's not Karl's style.
Don't get me wrong, he can give us a ball handling, passing second tier guy that can shoot the ball so its not the end of the world if we sign him but its not the best place for him and I want us and him to succeed.
Lou is a 6th man gunner that isn't the best or most willing passer in a point guards body. He would work playing with Smith because he could play off the ball and guard the other teams PG. But seeing as I don't want Smith, I also would pass on Williams. Belli did his share of ball handling for the Spurs in the second half of the year and could provide the same for us.
Regardless of the guys we didn't sign, we are still in a position were we shouldn't panic and should continue to add smart team guys. I think Gerald Green and/or Casspi, Lin or Beverly, Maxiell or Acy, Koufos or Jason Smith. With these 4-5 players we can build a nice rotation and have depth in case of injury and not take on a bad fit or a risky personality.

Josh smith is gonna get our and go back to Hou and negotiate. McKale were perfect for him and he loves playing with Howard and Brewer and Ariza and Morey has said he wants to run it back.

I'd have to think Smith is still being considered.

Belinelli is a 2-guard. He can't play the 3 full time. In spots? Sure.
Not sure about those two players -- Lou or Smith
