Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
Since free agency is looking to be a huge bust, let's look at some players we might be able to absorb for cap space.
Gerald Wallace (BOS) (1 yr/10M)
Celtics have a lot of picks and some young pieces, but I'm not sure if they're interested in shedding his contract. Don't think Wallace has much left in the tank, but I mean we do need a SF I suppose and we would have 13M in cap space or so left.
Steve Blake (BKN) (1 yr/2M)
Still a good distributor and can knock down the open 3, but is old now.
Brendan Haywood (CLE) (1 yr/10M)
Haywood's contract is non-guaranteed so they'll try to dangle it for incoming talent. I would offer Young, Kelly, and Sacre of course and immediately waive him for more cap space. Young could be a cheaper alternative to JR Smith and they'd get some extra depth.
David Lee (GS) (1 yr/15M)
Lee is still a solid big man option. Assets would include bottom of the 1st round picks most likely. I suppose it's possible you could snag Kuzmic, an interesting C prospect.
Roy Hibbert (IND) (1 yr/15M)
Hibbert is a solid C and would definitely be a nice consolation in this trash dump of an offeseason. Not sure the Pacers would just outright dump him, though. He'll also likely want more money next summer.
Chris Anderson (MIA) (1 yr/5M)
Eh he's getting up there in age. Just sign Ater Majok, our 2nd round prospect, for similar production if you want that.
Mario Chalmers (MIA) (1 yr/4M)
I'd be interested, he could be a solid backup PG.
Zaza Pachulia (MIL) (1 yr/5M)
There's a lot of bigs over there in Milwaukee, but I'm assuming he would be the most attainable.
Nikola Pekovic (MIN) (3 yrs/12M per)
Would be taking a gamble on his health. Doesn't provide much in the way of rim protection or PNR defense, but he's a decent positional defender. Offensively and in the rebounding department he's solid. But again, if healthy.
Jose Calderon (NYK) (2 yrs/7M per)
Too expensive for a backup PG IMO. He's also 33.
Perry Jones III (OKC) (1 yr/2M)
Has some injury issues, is a tweener, and hasn't done much in OKC, but may be worth the gamble.
Moe Harkless (ORL) (1 yr/3M)
Not really sure why he hasn't been given more of a shot on the Magic, but he has the tools to be an excellent defender. Shot needs work.
Markieff Morris (4 yrs/8M per) and PJ Tucker (1 yr/5M) (PHX)
These two would come in a package deal in the event the Suns needs to clear cap for LMA. Tucker is a great wing defender, but he's also a bit older. Markieff can play, but I question his locker room presence, especially with all of our young guys.
Luke Ridnour (TOR) (1 yr/3M)
The Q-Rich of this offseason. His contract is non guaranteed, but he's a solid backup veteran PG at that price.
Nene (WSH) (1 yr/13M)
Nene is a good offensive big man, but he's lost some of his athleticism and is also injury-prone.
Ramon Sessions (WSH) (1 yr/2M)
Sessions was very underwhelming last year, but he is still a decent backup PG, especially at that price.

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
I'm not interested in anyone that Miami has but they would be more likely to give up a pick since they are in cap territory. Warriors will have low picks but David Lee is interesting.
I actually would see some upside in taking on Hibbert. Not old and could rejuvenate his career. Its one year. I dont care about the money, (its not mine anyway) so any asset we can get with him is a bonus. Id rather pay him 15m than see no potential in paying Hill another 9m for a season.

I'm fine with any of those deals as long as we can get picks back in return, then revisit the Cousins trade closer to the deadline with a greater arsenal of assets and expiring contracts to throw at the Kings.

With these ideas:
Trade 1: trade clarkson for winslow, mario, birdman
Trade 2: trade swaggy p, Ryan Kelly for Hibbert and a pick
Trade 3: trade birdman for Lee and a pick

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
I think nene is very interesting especially because they may take young back.
You forgot some others...
Galinari is 1yr/11mil... Came on at end of last year and could be a low risk, high reward guy. Kobe does well with euros. Denver clearly in tear down mode. Obviously an injury risk.
Chandler is 1yr/8mil... Not sure what he has left but im sure denver would jump at dropping him.
Noah... 1yr/14mil... I think chicago might part with him. Didnt do great last year and they have a lot of redundancy there.
I would love a galinari/noah grab which would work if we got rid of young and kelly in deal. Id like nene if we could pluck porter too in deal.
To be honest, i like some of these moves way more than these free agents. Much smarter low risk money.

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
Whichever brings back the most assets/draft picks. No need to be picky when it comes to 1 year players. Anyone on a multi year contract isn't worthy of consideration.
If I had to choose, Nene and Galinari.

I know one Lakers poster here that would love to have him back.

Anyone on this list willing to give us Picks in exchange to accept their trash? We have plenty of trash on our team as is... sacre, kelly, swaggy...

Morris and Tucker would be a good salary dump especially if Phoenix gives us two first rounders.cavs pick and Miami's 2021 pick. These guys would actually be deals.

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
One caveat that I have overlooked is trade kickers. That would bump up the incoming player's salary (if they have one) and would reflect in the cap as well.

I'm guessing we have a back door deal in place for either Nene or Lee.

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
Would be very interested in Markieff Morris, would be interested in Roy Hibbert for a rental (maybe we can get some firsts out of them also) and we can dump nick young on them if we are lucky enough, Nene would add leadership of some kind to this team on a one year
Wallace would be great if we could get someone good from the celtics also (i.e. Olynyk or better), for him alone, it ain't that interesting

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
Assuming that the Clippers get desperate, is it possible to s&t jordan hill to them for jamal crawford and a pick? Apparently, they dont have exceptions to sign a big after Pierce used up most of it.
I dont want to help them out but anything from keeping the same guys as last year.

All they have is next year's 2nd round pick.

Re: Official Salary Dump/Absorption Thread
Phoenix has to clear space to welcome both Chandler and Aldridge to the desert. The Lakers can absorb Markieff Morris and P.J. Tucker to land a really good young player on a fantastic deal (Morris is owed just $32 million total through 2019) and what is essentially an expiring contract (Tucker's $5.3 million salary in 2016-17 is non-guaranteed) attached to a guy who could start at small forward for L.A.
