I basically find Kobe the least likable player in the NBA. On the court, off the court, as a teammate and as a person just 100% unlikable.
He could have gone the route of Duncan and Wade, taking a discount to help the team build and stay in contention. Instead he signed such a ridiculous contract that it completely hamstrung the team resulting in **** show they are today. On top of that he alienates free agents like Dwight, and his a history of pissing all over his own teammates like Bynum, Smush Parker and even Shaq who he pushed out of town when they were at the pinnacle of greatness.
Frankly, I hope like hell they get the 4th pick in the draft after getting the worst record this year. I couldn't think of a more fitting end to his career.

I honestly don't think Howard came out all that well in that relationship either.
I think Kobe expects you to work your ass off and is a bit a an **** about it. So was MJ in that regard.
Kobe clearly hasn't made great choices in his life and definitely must be held accountable for them. Many people dislike him for those. With that said, he is an undeniable superstar and one of the best ever to play. I like to see legends be legendary.

He certainly was a superstar and don't argue he was a great player. Howard didn't come out that great because he was such a turd to Orlando more than anything. Definitely not going to knock you for liking the guy, I just never will and to the point where I have and will continue to enjoy the manner in which his career appears to be ending.
At this point, him being traded to the Nets for Deron Williams would be about the perfect ending, not that it will happen.

We can always talk about Tobes contract here! And in ATL threads.
Apparently the Kings offered Tobes a max deal that he turned down and Orlando finally stepped up and essentially offered him close to the max.

I'm disappointed the Tobes thread didn't get to 300.

But it was started under the old board formatting system with fewer posts per page. Under the old formula it would register over 400 pages!

He would have been an idiot to not go to SA.
Still...unbelievable how easy it is for them to reload. That franchise is truly something else.

That would be amazing. The NBA/ABC would have fits if that were the matchup.

Re: Free Agency Thread -Non Monroe FA talk
Pretty amazing the Spurs can be perpetual win now, yet have the cap space to sign Aldridge. Also that their core can last for so long and then bridge to another one with no gaps. No Sixers' or even Bucks' tank necessary.
About the Tobias thread, it was great for a while, but I didn't like the idea it was staying open because Hammond was still around. I mean Hammond is the one who drafted the guy but then was forced or at least strongly compelled to move him, so ironic to continue to hold his feet to the fire when it came to not having Tobes' services.

WeekapaugGroove wrote:Posted this on the suns board but want your opinion.
National media and fans seem confused as to why lma is even debating between the suns and spurs. Seems like and easy decision... and I say that as someone who lives in Phoenix and has adopted the suns.
But I think it ultimately has a lot to do with money. Word is lma wants a 2 yr deal with an opt out next summer to really cash in when the cap explodes and he's over 10 years of service. Well the only way for him to cash in for a true 5 year max with full raises next summer is for Portland to do a sign and trade on his 1+1 contract this summer . Without the sign and trade he loses full bird rights unless he signs a 3 year deal.
He could do next year at around 20 then sign a ridiculous 5 yr 160+ mil contract next summer.
What I think might be happening is phoenix had talked to Portland and they would do a sign and trade for markeif morris who has some off the court issues but at 4 yrs 32 mil his contract is a bargain. Where as San Antonio will need to give up draft picks to make Portland accommodate this deal. That's what's probably going on right now as San Antonio and Portland negotiate to get lma what he wants.
if lma gets the 1+1 deal it's a big risk for who ever gets him since he seems like the type who likes the fa process.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this and lma will take a 4 yr deal but if he does the 1+1 keep an eye on what the Blazers get for making it possible.
I respect your theory and find it an interesting scenario if that was actually allowed.
But that is very much NOT ALLOWED. Sorry to burst your bubble
S&Ts have to be for AT LEAST 3 seasons, and none of those years can be option years. So a 1+1 contract can't be part of an S&T. Choices are only 3, 3+1, 4. You also can't give a 5th year in an S&T. Nor can you give the larger raises you can if you keep your own FA. 1st year of S&T contract must be fully guaranteed

They'll be giddy compared to there reaction to the 2018 NBA Finals between the Bucks and T-Wolves

It is because their best players take less than market value to be part of that team. Tony Parker takes less than he could make. Danny Green just agreed to terms on less than he could have been paid this off season. Ginobli is either going to retire or sign for the vets minimum or maybe $2 mil. Duncan is going to sign for $5 mil.
That's how they can bring in LaMarcus Aldridge.
Meanwhile you have Kobe making $25 mil for the Lakers, Wade $20 mil for the Heat, etc.

I still don't understand how they've been able to pull that off.
Do they need to dump anyone else to sign LMA?

The West seems like it'll be pretty clearly tiered next season. The Spurs and Warriors will be the favorites with maybe the Thunder being able to compete with those two if they can have full health. The Grizzlies, Rockets and Mavs will be quality teams but kind of a cut below the others, unless Dallas really upgrades the PG position and Matthews comes back better than ever. And the Clippers and Pelicans should be playoff teams but kind of ho-hum teams that everyone knows will be bounced early.
