Here are the West 5s (or 5-4 combos) that started at least 40 games last season, sorted by PER:

And, the West 3's:

I sorted these out manually since you can't sort it by specific position in the BR search, but hopefully I got almost everything in the right place.

"So," you might ask, "How did we compete for a playoff spot with such an awful front court, you negative little b****?"

Well, looking at the WS/48 data, it's pretty clear: We won because of the much-maligned (and improperly-named) Hydra backcourt: Bledsoe, IT and Dragic. Also, Brandon Wright made very significant contributions off the bench.

If feels like Suns news went from 100 mph to a slow crawl. It was like there was an update on the Suns every hour to now no one knows when to expect anything. I still believe the Suns are going to do something where we all say I did not see that coming.

Needed to get a rebounder ... check
Needed a great defender ... check
Needed a veteran presence ... check
Needed to dump Marcus ... check
Needed to draft a shooter ... check

So far off-season is going well. Still have time to work some deals.

Bledsoe / Ish
Knight / Booker
Tucker / Warren
Kief / Leuer
Chandler / Len

If Len's outside shot has developed at all then he could be our PF. After signing Chandler we can save our cap space for next year and try to attract top free agents again.

No. I'd ask why you think PER is a good way to measure anything, when there are much better stats out there, and why you think a team built around its back court would ever win because of its front court. For instance, I'd invite anybody with eyes to argue Omer Asik was better than Len last year.

That's like saying the Thunder can't win when they had Kendrick Perkins at C when they won because of their PG and SF.

Yeah, like we should go for Durant... It's just pointless. The same scenario every year. Franchise player FA's won't come to PHX, and if we want a franchise player, gotta make it our own.

If Bledsoe and Knight can elevate their game, I can see a surprise year similar to 13-14, except with the end result being the playoffs.

At the very least, at least we will see the likes of Warren and Goodwyn get lots of playing time.

PER is, of course, not perfect, but it's one of the best advanced stats we have. (FWIW - Len is also last in WS/48).

If there was a coherent point after the first sentence, I failed to decipher it.

I really just hope Warren gets 20+ min a game and at least 30 starts.

Mcd just keeps making more bad descisions as time goes on. What is there to gain by stalling the development of our first good drafted center in years.

Chandler doesn't stall anything for Len.

I couldn't agree more. I think we've had an underrated off-season. We quietly got the best shooter in the draft who we will have on a rookie scale for the next four years. We also inked, early, Tyson Chandler whom I've always wanted to be a Sun. Albeit, it truly is a few years late, I think Chandler is more valuable than just his stat line, PER or defense - his veteran leadership will be HUGE.

Honestly, I think David West makes way too much sense at this point. He's very close with both TJ Warren, has played with Tyson Chandler and is yet one more veteran locker room presence - things valuable for a playoff push.

PG - Bledsoe / [???]
SG - Knight / Booker / Goodwin
SF - Tucker / Warren
PF - [West] / Morris / Leuer
C - Chandler / Len

I think is an underrated team. And are we locked into Ish? I'd really like to see us grab another young guard and give them a chance. Ish just doesn't do it for me.

Well glad this dog and pony show is finally over. We got clowned once again and will probably never live this one down. This time I thought McDuh had finally conjured up a master plan to resuscitate this fledgling franchise and made me a sucker. Well looks like its time for PR/damage control. At least we tried you know? As a consolation we can congratulate ourselves on finishing second and hope that merely beign in the running will be a milestone for future marquee FAs to seriously consider us.And came out with Chandler as the highlight of our offseason and an eternal reminder that we went all in only to strike out

No chance. The Wild West is getting deeper by the year and its seems that parity has been restored to some extent with fringe teams like the Mavs poaching conference talent while former contenders like Portland who lost out on key players will add to our competition for the 8th seed. OKC will be back and healthy and SA by reloading will at the very least push more teams down the ladder. If this trend of stagnation continues for the forseeable future in a couple of years our treadmilling will no longer be mediocre by relative standard and we will be eclipsed by emerging teams like the TWolves, Jazz and then we may finally escape our perennially fated late lottery position and become a bottom dweller.
