Not sure what to think of this one - I like the fact that it's a short deal. His stock is really, really down right now, so I guess it can't get any worse?

Randle doesn't qualify for ROY.

Don't mind this move at all. We're not even remotely close to contending, so getting a B minus/C plus player doesn't really hurt us. He comes in, fills a role we need filled, then his money comes off the books and we have more resources next summer. Not the best case scenario over landing a true building block for long term, but failing that the last thing we need to do is make a dumb move to sign a mediocre player longer term. Keep rolling those dollars over until we can really make them count.

At least this time it isn't as stupid a quantum leap as taking Lin. And just for reference the only reason we took on a pick for lin is they thought they had bosh to Miami swooped in and went total max. It wasn't us being a good front office, let that go, we haven't been that in years

This is why we suck and a good chance we are always going to suck from now on. No we don't NEED a center we are a Lotto team without a Lotto pick. you know who NEEDs something play off teams. Lotto teams need Asset not some who has 1 year left on there contract that wont turn them into a play off team.

You apparently have no long term perspective. The Lakers can flip Hibbert at some point during the season for a team desperate for a Center. And seeing the teams lacking front court help, we may get some of those assets you're talking about down the road.

You mean how we setup jills contract to be a tradable asset? Oh wait :(

He might, league office can let him. He didn't play a regular season game. Don't know if there's that specific precedent in NBA history.

He did play like 8 mins in the season opener vs Rockets.

Interesting idea here, which reminds me that I think Nash needs to come work for the Lakers at some capacity in player development. He'd be a huge score for developing D'angelo and jordan. While Nash has worked with randle already, I think you'd see more tangible results if he was helping him in a season where Randle is actually in the game.

My mind goes directly to how chris paul and deandre jordan trapped Jordan and forced him to pass the ball for a whole game in that back to back clippers series in april. They took clarkson completely out of that game with that trap well above the 3pt line. The very next game after a session with nash, a late night gym session, and a film session with Byron; you saw Clarkson beating that trap and keeping his dribble alive to create for his teammates. He wasn't just trying to barrel through with his athleticism anymore, he was able to beat the trap by two premiere nba stars. And that is the effect of being a hard worker and having a great mentor. Those tangible results in player development are why I'm praying we get nash to continue to work with our young players.

By the way I doubt Lamar would be that good of a mentor, he never came off as a cerebral player if you know what i mean lol. He just seemed to be a natural.

Thought I read somewhere that the league was considering making Randle an exception in regards to that.

I actually like the move. Not flashy but solid. We needed a center and I still believe Hibbert to be in the upp echelon when it comes to defense because that's what we really need.

You know I went all year thinking he got hurt in the last preseason game?

Simply amazing.

Who knows, still kind of freakish, still a glimmer of possible there.

I believe Silver had mentioned that if the Lakers pushed for it for whatever reason, a committee would look at it.

I personally wouldn't see the harm in it, one could even go further and reset his stats so his 14 minutes didn't count.

Nice. Been on the Hibbert to LA wagon for a while... I think the change of pace and lower expectations are going to do him some good. He and Randle are going to be fun to watch. Lobs from Russell and Clarkson should be nice too.

The swing for the fences move was DaJ and LMA... Woulda been nice but when you swing for the fences, you strike out more than you are the hero. This is a solid, give the rooks some playing time to develop move.

I like this deal.

Every team needs a rim protector.

Hibbert was an allstar.

We basically got him for free.

If Kobe can get him going, we have an all star defensive center, who is still relatively young.

He's also like a solid fit with Randle.

He doesn't mesh well with out young guards, but who knows, I could see it working out.

I like it, a lot.

Don't know about assets, but it seems like people don't realize that per league rules the lakers aren't allowed to just take on Hibbert for nothing. League rules stipulate that a trade has to at least involve, from both sides, either a player, rights to a player, or a pick.
