and who is the stashed player we gave up? i don't mind the fact we gave a late 2nd and cash, if we really want a second we can buy one. This is more to make us watchable at least, i think we could be a mid 30 win team this season if all falls into place and kobe actually remains healthy. It at least makes us compelling for the big name free agents next season

Thought I'd correct you here...The proper answer is Kristaps Porzingis :D

Every team needs a rim protector.

Hibbert was an allstar.

We basically got him for free.

If Kobe can get him going, we have an all star defensive center, who is still relatively young.

He's also like a solid fit with Randle.

He doesn't mesh well with out young guards, but who knows, I could see it working out.

I like it, a lot.

Agreed. Could flop, Could flourish, but, it's zero risk. Sadly, Lakers weren't going to get a long term solution this year through FA with that money so this is the next best option and hope that a change in systems and scenery will get him back into somewhat old form.

in regards to those saying we're not sixers, what makes us NOT the sixers right now? Aren't we both teams of failures, full of rookies and constantly taking on other teams garbage? The only difference here is Sixers get paid to take the trash, we pay to take on trash

Yup. I liked Majok though, as I've said repeatedly in various threads. Thought he had potential as a Chris Andersen energy big off the bench. But I doubt he ever gets a call up.

to be fair, we could have potentially upshaw and black as backup bigs, the only big he would be an upgrade over is Sacre, and honestly, a rock would be an upgrade over Sacre

Lol we are not a play off team. Adding wins adds nothing for the team. You yourself said why it is stupid the only ones winning is Hibberts and Indy. If Hibberts had 2 years left on his deal I would not be as bad 1 bad year we buy low we win something out of it. Right now WE GAIN NOTHING

So let me get this straight--you would much rather put our young guys through a tank year rather than fielding a quality team that can help expedite their development? That sounds like something the Sixers would do, not the Lakers.

Losing creates bad habits, and that's something we want to avoid at all costs. Hibbert will make us competitive, and help fill a huge hole on the current roster. There's little to no risk associated with this deal, and that's what makes it such a homerun.

I wouldn't call it a homerun but I like it. Homerun would be if they gave us the picks over Hibbert. But I agree, tanking doesnt make sense at this point.

You knew something like this would happen when they were saying Koufos was on the radar but no signings made. A trade had to be in the works. Finally we get some rim protection that we had been lacking since Howard went to Houston.

Now we need to solidify the wings and get a backup pg.

We gave up two second rounders for an elite rim protector in the prime of his career. That by definition, is a homerun. Stop being so spoiled. :P

I didn't follow the Pacers. He is prime because of his age. Now whether he can go back to his prime of being an all-star is a different story. If he does, then its a homerun. Wouldn't it be funny if Hibbert made the all-star team starting lineup via LAs marketing machine over Jordan and Aldridge?

Sorry to intrude.

I hope Hibbert does well at the Lakers as he was one of my favourite players but you can't use highlights of him against Miami 2-3 years ago as he's completely fallen off a cliff since then.

I don't see why folks are ragging on this deal. He's 28 and 7 ft tall. You can't teach height. Plus maybe all he needs is a change of scenery. If he pans out we have a center going forward who is above average. If he doesn't he comes off the books next year. It's a win win.
