Kyle Anderson

So, anyone followed Kyle progress in the development league ?

What do you guys think about his prospects of joining and contributing to Spurs this season ?

Personally I liked the glimpses of potential he showed in couple of games he played for us and I really want him to get under Diaw tuttelage ASAP. He has vision and passing skill to be our point-foward for the years to come.

Well he came in and contributed right away at the start of last season so just based on that I think he's capable of stepping into the rotation. He need's to work on jumper and get stronger.

The roster is going to be thin on the back end anyway so he should make it.

I still can't see him as a SF. I've watched a few of his Austin games during the season.. especially his "big" games..

In Austin, they use him at PF defensively. Offensively, he handles the ball a lot so you can say he plays a lot of PG i guess. He's lacking in his jumper, but he seems to shoot decently from the midrange. In the NBA, Pop played him at SF and he really can't get by anybody. He's just too slow for NBA caliber SFs. Pop didn't play him at PF so we didn't see what he's like at PF. But in Austin, him at PF makes it easier for him to get to the rim and make plays because obviously PFs aren't accustomed to guarding guys on the perimeter. Defensively, he's just way too slow to guard anybody on the 3 point line. In Austin, his lack of strength isn't exposed because I'm guessing the talent there is not that good anyways. Kyle has a 6'9'' frame and long arms.. Like 7'3'' wingspan I think. He's an above average rebounding in the D-league and I didn't see him getting taken advantage of there. This is why I think if he adds strength and is able to defend PFs in the NBA, then PF will be his more natural position than SF. Him adding strength is a lot easier than him adding quickness. He's just way too slow to begin with.

Yeah i tought that he's lacking in terms of athletic ability, that's why i never considered him playing SF.
I just hope that he will gain some weight and hit the gym in this offseason, we'll see in SL i guess.

this clown is just to slow man....

even with his height, clown is not a very good shooter
we dont need another ball facilitator when the spurs have diaw playing that role or turnoboli

Kyle is too slow to play SF and he is too skinny to play PF. But he is a very smart player, a great playmaker.

That's why I believe he will take over Manu's role as the 2nd unit playmaker. You can put the ball on his hands (which is his best attribute because i don't see him succeeding playing off the ball) and you can hide him defensively against 2nd unit players. That's basically perfect for him and San Antonio.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I think he's fine as a 2nd unit PF because most backup PFs (even starting ones) are now mostly tweeners and a lot of teams now are also playing small ball. So I think Kyle, as a bench guy, is good enough right now to play PF. Too bad we're set at PF.

I know it's just one game in Summer League, but I was looking forward to seeing him play and I'm really disappointed. I just can't see him being in the regular rotation unless he suddenly looks different in the next few games.

Spurs played him at SF. He did some playmaking but Casper Ware obviously is the PG so Kyle didn't really handle the ball as much as I'd like to see. The good thing is that it seems that he's able to get past his man using his dribble. It's just that he doesn't have 3 point range, and he's too slow to get all the way to the rim from the 3 point line even if he got by his man. It mostly ends up with him somewhere in the midrange and he doesn't have a midrange jumper. So the possession ends up with him passing it back out. I think it's just a waste of possession because nothing comes out of it. The first thing he needs to work on is his midrange jumper if this is the case. It will open up the rim if he's actually a threat from the midrange because the bigs are just waiting for him at the rim.

Defensively, OMG.. Kyle simply isn't a SF. That's just blatant obvious. Off the top of my head, I remember 3 times when a guy get past him and all he can do at that point is just reach in. He's just way too slow to be playing so far out in the 3 point line defending players 10x quicker than him. It's an impossible task.

Looking at this, we're better off with a guy who can just spot up at the 3 point line even if he plays no defense because Kyle's playmaking skills is useless at the NBA level unless he becomes more of a scoring threat. I think we need to bring in a SF. Kyle's not ready.

The guy in the summer league that caught my attention is Dairus Bertans. Played SG and had a really good 3 point stroke. Doesn't have much else though other than his shooting but atleast he can space the floor even when he's just standing at the 3 point line.

Livio Charles has absolutely no offensive game but he plays with energy and pretty active on the defensive end.

Cady Lallanne sucks. Yeah he seems to have a decent form on his jumper but it's pointless if it's not connecting. Hell, DeAndre Jordan has a good shooting stroke that can't hit the rim. I'd take Aron Baynes jumper because even though it looks bad, it goes in a lot. Cady isn't ready to be an NBA player yet.

Casper Ware looks solid if we want a 3rd string PG. He's kinda built and plays like a Ty Lawson, but just the worse version of it. I wouldn't mind him as a 3rd stringer.

What would it take from the Sixers in a trade for Anderson?

Lakers pick?

Maybe something around Grant and one of Thompson or Sampson?

Haha! Nice one.

Actually, I am probably in the minority of Sixers fans willing to give up the OKC 2016 1st plus Sampson and Thompson for him. IMO, that is essentially swapping potential prospects for a kid with potential to be better than all 3 Sixers assets. Although, I'm sure the Spurs would find a way to turn those 3 assets into the next dynasty. LOL

I was a big fan of his at UCLA

He just seems too dammed slow for the NBA...
I think he can run a teams 2nd unit.. but I don't know if it will be worth all the hassle. (cross matching on defense)
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

Proceeds to finish 7th and shames the entire nation!

I think you guys are over reacting. He is quicker than Diaw and Bonner ever were for us. If he can bulk up a bit, there's nothing stopping him being a Diaw type of player.

Plus the Summer and D leagues are funny. You can get guys who average 35, 15, 5 and struggle in the NBA. Or get guys who average 15 and whatever and do the same against better competition. I honestly think Kyle is one of those latter guys who can hold his own.

Agreed. He's got that old man game down already, he doesn't need to be quicker than everyone else to get himself good shots.

The argument that he needs to be quicker is for his Defense. Offensively, Kyle's quickness is just fine. It's his shooting that needs work.

We can cover him up on defense for the 10-20 minutes he's going to play and we have enough shooting to give him space to work. He might not be the most rounded player but he's got skills that are going to help us next year.
