to bring a mentally fragile player in with Scott coaching and Kobe playing; I don't like his chances of holding up. I like the idea/fit, but I think we should've gotten assets out of Indy for taking on his deal. I really worry about him mentally with this coach and star player.

I cannot wait for B. Scott to run him ragged in pre-season.
If more people thought like I do, the world would be a much better place.

This has had some time to sink in and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Think Roy will have a good year. I guess I'd be okay with Sanders if weed is his only problem.

Well, can't say I'm upset with the Hibbert trade. The part that annoys me is sending a 2nd and cash for him, if true. This should've minimally been just absorbing his contract and really getting a 2nd + cash from them.

The good thing about Hibbert is that he's a legit defensive anchor to pair next to Randle. Hibbert has great length (see, length is important!) which makes him one of the best rim protectors in the league. When he gets caught in space, he has good knee bend and uses his length (there's that length again!) well to slow ball handlers.

The bad or really why Larry Bird publicly dogged him. Can't keep up in a fast paced league and not a huge minutes player. Has gotten worse defending the pick-n-roll over the years.

Just a terrible offensive player where people think he's ok in the post due to that one Miami series back in 2013. He got completely exposed against the Hawks in 2014 where they were able to guard him with wing players. That's terrible considering he's 7'2". Hibbert is terrible as a roll man given his slow speed, so Vogel had him shooting midrange jumpers this past season. Gets called with a charge every now and then. Poor offensive rebounder.

Hibbert's post game is just something that could be worked on because all he has to do is be effective with it against a wing player who switches on him where he can do a baby hook. So the good is that this can be fixed so long as he has his head on straight given his confidence issues. If he doesn't, then it's 4 on 5 offense where he's pretty much not playing when the playoffs start. He'd be a regular season only guy.

Worth a gamble. Hope it works out. Welcome to the team, and as a fan, we're all rooting for him.

People are seriously underrating Hibbert's offense. He can score with both hands in the post. Has a decent face up mid range shot. He'll be alright...

He's got a few moves in the post, as well.

I hope Kobe takes a different approach and teaches him some post moves downlow.

May I just add that aside from the obvious damage control, we got Hibbert who is:

-a legit C
-a decent defensive anchor
-has respectable, well rounded offensive game
-not a liability on the FT line
-young at 28

instead of Aldridge who does not want to play C and nearing his 30's and Jordan who can't hit a FT to save his life and has limited offensive moves (atm). Also both commanding max money.

Lakers got a rental who is a combination, to a lesser extent, of those FAs that rejected them. Also provided FO cap to use and free up PT and support to Randle at the frontcourt.

Not sure why you would look at Hibbert's offense he'll never get ball with our projected starting lineup.

Hibbert was a player that was on try with list but I wanted him after we'd signed other players that would be part of our long term core and we should have gotten an asset for him instead of giving one up. This team needs to restock with assets in the worst way

it's too bad phil isn't here; imagine what he could do with Roy, considering what he got out of Kwame

Not sure how to feel about this deal. I would've expected an asset from Indy for doing them the favor of taking on Hibbert's contract instead of sending one their way.

Hibbert provides the rim protection we desperately needed and can at least hit his free throws but I worry about the fit with Kobe given his confidence issues. I have zero confidence in Kobe being able to tone down his abrasive style in order to get the best of him.

At least he doesn't take up any cap space after this year so I can't really take much of an issue with it, even if Hibbert is a non-contributor.

Definitely worth the gamble! He will make Randle look better in that he will protect the paint. I think he looks to protect first and that may put him in tough position to rebound. Rebounding to me is up to the power forward and if Randle can get his we are going to be alright.
This to me is going to be a very interesting season with all these young players!
Very optimistic right now!!!!

I wont lie, I always thought that Hibbert was mediocre, even when stats disproved my feelings. His D was overrated, IMHO. If you got a floater (everyone does, nowadays) you can work him up pretty easy. He's terrible defending the PnR. He's always backpedaling. but... As I said, stats always showed he was a great defender, so...

Now, I like the fact he can shoot. Russell can pick up some cheap assists on the Pick and pop. That can give him confidence during tuff games. Also, I like he isn't a great rebounder but he does box out, that's one aspect of his game that is underrated. He's not lazy. He's just too big to chase down rebounds. A 4 that can board will always benefit from playing alongside him. So.. cheap rebounds to Randle.

I also feel that Hibbert is very dependent on his confidence. If he somehow starts well and build his confidence it can take him to his best days in Indy. Also, it helps our no-school coach to go all-in in the old-school scheme that he loves.

It would be amazing if we could win 32-37 games. Now if we get the injury plague we better go for a forced tank. hire 5 chuckers and let them play like the globetrotters for us. If we give up a lottery pick... damn. That'd hurt.

I like the deal. Indy didn't have to trade him, so I could see why they didn't add any assets in return. Plus the Lakers were the one who needed a quality center. I'm not mad at giving a 2nd and a d-league player for him. I think its a fair trade honestly. If anything, the Lakers have a chance to buy a 2nd round pick in the future.

Not expecting him to be an offense monster. I'm looking forward to his defensive capability. I would be happy if he can just block and alter shots and drives at the rim consistently. Rebounds and put backs when they come, with an occasional mid-range jumper.

All in all, good trade. We can re-evaluate it at the end of the season.
