Re: Around the NBA
Is there really much loss than can happen for DJ? If he sucks as "the man", he still makes his money, Dallas just uses him as a 13-14 ppg finisher and he still rebounds and blocks shots and defends, but at least he know he tried to do that. I'd rather try and fail than never have tried at all.
Dallas has max cap space next off-season. I think it is $27 million that Durant will be eligible for (30% of cap), and then if they fail on Durant, they'll probably look at Horford and getting a PG somehow. Of course they could lose out if they put their cards in the Durant basket and fail, and they stil have to convince Horford. I don't think they have a real chance at Durant. They have a better chance of convincing Horford than the Clippers who would be asking him to play C. PG wise, of course Mike Conley is there, but I can't see how they would get both Horford and Conley. I suppose if they can't get Horford they go after Conley, or they chose between the two and pursue one or the other.
Parsons will opt in so that he can be a FA the next season when the cap is even higher and he can get even more money.
If they get:
Some PG (Jeremy Lin I guess??)
Wesley Matthews
Chandler Parsons
Al Horford / Dirk Nowitzki
DeAndre Jordan
That's still a fairly decent team, they have Dirk as the 6th man and he can play with either DJ or Horford. Not a favorite, but again, he's on a team that can win and get to the playoffs and compete still, getting his money, and he had his attempt at being a bigger offensive player. What's lost for him?

Re: Around the NBA
I think you're being way too optimistic on his behalf og. That you lined up is one of the best case scenarios for them. Most common thing for teams trying to build through FA is to strike out on plan A, B and C. Usually one or no impact free agents change teams each year, it's unusual to be the one of the 30 teams to get one. To be honest, even more likely than that is that they have Barea at PG and he sucks, Matthews is never the same after his injury, and Dirk keeps regressing, so they have to fight tooth and nail to get into the post season. If you look at it from the money perspective, yeah, he's getting his money either way, but he was already doing that here, there, or anywhere else.

Most likely they don't get Horford, but they can find some sort of player. I suppose they could go some route like getting a guy like David Lee or something wild like Al Jefferson to be a PF, lol. Dirk will decline of course, and Matthews is quite up in the air.QRich3 wrote:I think you're being way too optimistic on his behalf og. That you lined up is one of the best case scenarios for them. Either way, the guy got to try out his whole being the man and he's a FA at like 29 or 30 and he can join the rest of FA's in going to a top team.

motivation, structure, and support group.
DJ is a lazy dude proven over and over again since his younger days, from his collage coach who called him 18 going 12, and his own mother who called him lazy. having Doc to father him, having CP to bark at him, and having Blake to brother him helped DJ to be where he is. without the support group and now under a no-nonsense coach like Rich Carlyle, I can see him pout just the same as he did here, and we all know once his confidence is shaken, he will revert back to his old bad habits. I can also see him bringing his hommies and run with his entourage now he is back in his home state. he will just be the next Samuel Dalembert or more like the next Stanley Roberts whom i loved but ate his way out of the league. If he was a self-motivated kind of a guy, he would have maintained his once 50% FT at least. he did it before, and Im sure in practice he can do better than 50%. that part of the game is all mental, where he is a midget at.
ehhhhh f it.

Sorry on my phone. I've seen it on hoopshype through the media twitter accounts. Supposedly its down to Cave and SA. West is supposed to be slightly concerned with his role if he were to join the Cabs as they already have Varejo, Moz, Love and Thompson.

We couldn't have afforded him realistically though. Bass, Williams, Hibbert Flakers are still going to be a bottom feeder team in the West.

Priorities Out of Order

A legitimate shot at obtaining a championship ring during his career, but you're right...he's not really losing out given his priorities to try to be "the man", play closer to home, and make the big bucks. He also wants to be an All-Star, which I don't think was ever going to happen. However, playing in Lob City with Doc getting the most out of him as well as serving as his press agent would have provided him with the perception of being a snub for that honor.
If the Clips win a Larry or two with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, he may come to eventually regret leaving as he's all about upgrading his status in the eyes of the public. People respect winners and when he comes to the inevitable realization that he's not truly a star player, he might wish to have continued to ride the coattails of BG and CP in order to bask in the shared glory even as he wanted his own spotlight.
Probably just wishful thinking on my part, but damn, would that be satisfying if it did happen.

Gosh, did he really get out of here so he could pair up with David Lee or Al Jefferson?? I mean, I'm not saying you're wrong in that it would be his thinking, but what you're saying is he just wanted to go to a sh*t team so he could be the better player on a significantly worse roster? He just wanted to get out of here cause we were too good for him??
I mean, it's not like we were the best team in the league, but we have two top 10 players and they have a weird roster with a star nearing 40 y/o, an overpaid guard coming off an achilles surgery, and what else?? Parsons' pretty face?? they're scrambling to re-sign Barea with their room exception and trying to get a S&T for Jeremy freakin Lin, what is the attractive of going to Dallas? I just don't get it still. Their 5th best player currently is your pick between Devin Harris, Richard Jefferson and Ray Felton. There's no way I can look at it and think he isn't making a major mistake. He's an impressionable child that just let some popular guys take advantage that he's got his head in the clouds.

Re: Around the NBA
It's only a mistake if his priorities are being on the best team right now. Mistake is relative to your goals. If his priorities are bigger offensive role, closer to home, and the extra of getting a little bit more pocket money, then there's no mistake for him. It's a mistake if we thinking winning more right now is his biggest priority, clearly it isn't. At 26, he can say "I can chase a championship in the future". Of course reality for many players is that this doesn't always happen, injuries, not getting on the right team later, but he can still say that and believe that.

Re: Around the NBA
Come on man, you're being way too PC there. I appreciate that you're always a balanced dude and I get that you want to show the other side to the hate most of us are showing, but this is what this is. He let them pander to his ego and believed them when they told him he was something he's not. He went to a worse team, for less money (ok, about the same money when you take into account income tax), to a situation more likely to make him earn less in his next contract, all because they were sucking up to him.
He can do whatever he pleases yeah, but he's being pretty dumb about it, and Dallas fans will be the first to tell you that.
