Re: WE DID IT! (HIBBERT EDITION)
Been waiting for the final details of the trade. As a Pacer fan, I am not sure what to feel about this. Glad that we have enough cap space to move around, and an additional draft pick we don't usually get in the recent years. Kind of confused as to what extent did our front office tried to seek for the best trade partner for Hibbert, but I am sure it wasn't easy. And quite sad that we lost a good guy.
Roy's biggest problem is his mental stability. And with him rumored to be coming off the bench for Indiana next season, to give way for a faster offense, is not okay. Damage has been done with the statements and all and the Pacers better send him out rather than have a dismayed player on its team. I just hope he can coexist with Kobe.
If he's in his right mind, he plays well. He's not that reliable offensively, yet, but unlike with Indiana, he's not going to get asked to take up a scorer's role for LAL. I think he'd be a good pair with Randle in the frontcourt. Wish the guy all the best.

Hibbert was the centerpiece to some of the greatest defenses in NBA history. Advanced stats consistently show he was the best interior defender in the league. Marc Gasol winning DPOY over him a few years back was borderline criminal.

Re: WE DID IT! (HIBBERT EDITION)
Hibbert is only 28
His problems were in Indiana.
He played a lot of games and is a big body.
Lakers fan need to help him gain his swagger and confidence back.
Make him want to earn his 15 mil,
and be re-born
Big guys cannot play big minutes. They need more breaks
There is a lot of Good a 7'2" guy can do who only has to play when teams go big.
like SA, Dallas, NO, Houston,
Against GS and Clippers he doesn't have to play as much unless Bogut is in.

Every time I start to say Greyhound Therapy doesn't work, I remind myself of Z-Bo, and shut up. Hope the same works for Hibbert. If one of Sanders or Upshaw can come along as a decent backup, we actually have done very well and aren't locked into anything long term. For that matter, I'd be happy to bring in DLee as our small-ball center, as he was on the Knicks when he played so well.
He and Hibbs would turn into 31 mil in cap after the season. If the Warrior would take Swaggy in a dealf or Lee, I would be very happy.

Re: WE DID IT! (HIBBERT EDITION)
I've read the general board thread about the Hibbert trade, and there is a really strange phenomenon occurring.
Not only is the voting in the vast majority positive, very few of the posts are the normal Lakers hate that infests that board.
Why?

Whether or not Greyhound Therapy works depends on the destination. I don't think a large market, with a long tradition of dominant centers and a hyper demanding franchise player is the best destination for a guy like Hibbert. I would love to be proven wrong though. Not only because it will be beneficial to my team but also because Hibbert seems like a nice dude.

Re: WE DID IT! (HIBBERT EDITION)
First off I'd like to say welcome Pacer fan, we don't get too many of you guys here on the board. Good post too.
Now just because he comes to LA doesn't mean all is well, he has to work to get back to that 2012-2014 all star form he was in. A change of scenery and the fact his career is at a flux should wake him up. If he plays well the Lakers will certainly bring him in the fold for the next 4-5 years. I know teams want to go small or play small, but you still need serviceable bigs who protect the paint.
Roy has a second chance, he has to take advantage of it.
Yeah these things are usually tricky, pretty sure Bird needed to find a team with as much cap space as possible.Moooose wrote:Been waiting for the final details of the trade. This to me was Roy's main problem. I think it started from the midway point of the 2013-14 season, he started that season so well and was being talked about as a DPOY man. But this was also the time when George was getting into his run. Then in the playoffs I can't remember which game but Vogel sat Roy down for a possession, and I think the Pacers lost the game...a game Roy was playing well in. From there Vogel to me kept mind screwing him.Moooose wrote:Roy's biggest problem is his mental stability. That was the surprising to me how Bird went about handling that. If they didn't want Roy they should've made that known in exit meetings. Bird made an error on that because it cut his leverage, teams knew he needed to be moved.Moooose wrote:Damage has been done with the statements and all and the Pacers better send him out rather than have a dismayed player on its team.
I don't think this is a problem, outsiders will make it a problem that's not there. In these last few years Kobe has gotten into a more helper mode with all his teammates that want to listen and get better. It's what Julius has done along with Clarkson, these guys have listen to Kobe and Kobe has helped them and people are going to see the results of it.Moooose wrote:I just hope he can coexist with Kobe.
Exactly he won't be needed for a ton of offensive production, but unlike Indy I don't think we'll completely ignore him either.Roy was a former All Star, you don't get that by accident especially when it was the coaches that voted for him. I've been saying it but I feel the Pacers became too Paul George eccentric too fast. It was like after that one series with Miami it seemed like the media was forcing a star status on him. Yes he did play well, but the Pacers identity at that point was good team defense, being physical and team play with the ball. That all changed after that series and Roy was the biggest victim of it.Moooose wrote:If he's in his right mind, he plays well. Oh stop it...fact.that roy has fallen like he has is enough proof of how overrated he is...dude is your typical slooth C, he wont be able to handle the PnR centric offense with his slow ass, hes gona be rather useless quickly once opposing teams get easy O on that PnR play

We seriously need to stop giving credit for all-stars C from the east. ...jamal maglore was an all-star once. Its a joke how terribly avg Cs in the east are, the best the east had last year was a no D stat padding Vucevic along with a Pf who plays C in Bosh

Marc was and is still a terrific PnR defender given his slowness, Roy couldnt dream of defending that play with any sort of effectiveness, dude is 7 2 and avg 6.6 rebs thats a dam joke and his big/tall as he is he should be avg more blks than he has been as of lateRip It wrote:LApwnd wrote:Rip It wrote:Hibbert was the centerpiece to some of the greatest defenses in NBA history. Actually Roy is still an elite rim protector and the advanced stats back it up. Defensively he's still a big body that can protect the paint. Everything else about him is trash but at this point he is elite in at least some categories that the Lakers are lacking in.

MArc Spears saying it's Kelly and/or Sacre ... There is a good joke there because it screams what Indy tried to do last time to clean up and paint a new image '
But if they take Kally and Sacre, I'll send Bird a thank you letter

Re: WE DID IT! (HIBBERT EDITION)
If the cap is set at $67.1 million, the numbers don't quite work for Williams without the Lakers getting creative.
One option is trading away a player, like Ryan Kelly or Nick Young, to open up additional spending power.
The Lakers can also take advantage of timing. Hibbert is set to earn $15.5 million for the coming season but a trade would give him a 15% bonus, paid by the Pacers. If so, the Lakers would need to accommodate $17.8 million of their cap space to bring in the center.
Hibbert can, however, waive the trade bonus — but only if the Lakers cannot accommodate it within their cap room. If the trade is made before signing Williams, the bonus is in effect.
Should Williams sign first, Hibbert would be able to waive his bonus — a decision that involves turning down $2.3 million — allowing the Lakers to fit both players within a $67.1-million salary cap.
In order to bring in Williams and Hibbert, the Lakers will need to renounce their rights to Carlos Boozer, Jordan Hill, Jeremy Lin and possibly Wesley Johnson, Wayne Ellington and Ronnie Price.
The Lakers still have one significant spending tool remaining, the $2.8-million room exception, after which the franchise can add players via minimum contracts.

Waive that bonus Hibbert.

Re: WE DID IT! (HIBBERT EDITION)
The Lakers are exploring trades for Young, Ryan Kelly and Robert Sacre. Sacre and/or Kelly are possibilities to go to Pacers, sources said.
Young and Ryan Kelly and Sacre very much on block...Sacre and/or Kelly are possibilities to go to Pacers in the Hibbert deal.
