If you watched the last 27 games he played , he has proven everything he's needed to. Further more with cap rising, it's a bargain contract.........absolute steal for Detroit

Just because he played well against him a couple games doesn't mean he is better.

Dragic is by far the better shooter but Reggie is the better PG and better finisher in traffic. I'm not going to sit and say Reggie is better then him but it's closer then some would think.

Agreed , I have them on the same tier

Do yourselves a favor, folks, don't look on the General and Trade boards to get outsiders' perspectives on this move.

Wow.

To be clear, this deal isn't a steal, and isn't without risk. But its the right thing to do.

whitehops wrote:Ok so I'll do my little projection here for this contract. I just rounded his contract to $16 million flat per year, though I'm sure it increases.

All figures in millions:
Reggie in 2016 - $16
2016 salary cap - $69
% of cap - 23.2%

Reggie in 2017 - $16
Projected cap in 2017 - $89
% of cap - 18%

Reggie in 2018 - $16
Projected cap in 2018 - $108
% of cap - 14.8%

After that the cap is expected to settle at around $100 million, which obviously makes reggie's contract 16% of the salary cap.

Based on that, his contract going forward will be the equivalent of the following amounts, based on the $63 million cap last year :

2016 - $14.6 million
2017 - $11.3 million
2018 - $9.3 million
2019/beyond - $10 million

Not to be a bug, but what are these cap projections you're using based on and where did you get them?

I figured perceptions of the move would be negative among the general population who didn't really watch Reggie play here and paid close attention to how the drama played out in OKC, but I was pretty surprised by how unanimous and unequivocally negative the reaction has been.

Just because Dragic may have more efficient numbers doesn't mean he is better though, and that wasnt just any couple games ,the 2nd one was basically win or go home with regards to the playoffs. Reggie showed me something that day. Down 15 with 5 min left and our season on the line, he refused to give in and willed us to victory all by himself. Dragic wet the bed and got his team all but eliminated from the playoffs because he couldnt stop Reggie. That is the PG I want leading my team because in the playoffs its more about will than efficiency.

Reggie proved he can be just as efficient too though once we put the right personnel around him.

I guess its subjective who is really better but I personally like Jackson.

The Pistons could sign LeBron for the vet minimum and the general public would say they overpaid lol .Its always like that with Michigan teams for some reason. I just laugh most of the time.

Dj Augustine who is a expiring contract this season, kyle singler and 2 first rounders. Rj can not be defined "consistent" quite yet but over those past 27 games he showed more than Brandon knight or Jennings ever showed. And that includes chemistry with our core players. With cap going up, how you can't see this as a steal at the price we paid is puzzling to me.

Pistons have a place in basketball history that most teams wish wasn't there. We've always been the team no one believed in but had to chew that crow eventually. Rooting for us is rooting against the odds.

Furthermore they probably know about as much as us as we know of them.

Our team will do our talking . I'm thinking about creating a thread for other posters to post to eat that crow.

I knew this signing would get that type of reaction from non-Pistons fans. I think it was very fair and we got him at a great price. I hated on Harden getting a max...I didn't know what I was talking about. The same thing will happen. Not saying RJ will be as good as him, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him become a star.

I hope Drummond gets the max extension soon to go with this.

The expected signing happens and the expected reaction follows...
