Danny Granger

This thread isn't so much about the trade, but specifically, is Danny Granger able to play this year for us? And if so, can he possibly contribute?

He's obviously had a good career, got slowed down by injuries, and is now a big question mark. But as Butler and Prince contributed last year, I'm wondering if Granger will be able to play this year.

Does anyone know where he lives, is he working out, has he had any comment about the trade?

He's coming off an injury that we don't know (as fans) where he's at progress wise. Many believe "he's done" because he's not putting up numbers he did in Indy and he's 32. But IMO, **IF HE'S HEALTHY**, I think he could provide that Caron Butler veteran leader role, which is worth keeping on the roster, especially considering how small his contract is.

He can be a project for our new medical staff post Kander. So that'll be interesting to see at least.

There was a report that he'd moved his family to PHX to work with their medical staff over the Summer. Can't imagine he's thrilled with the trade, but I think we should definitely keep him and support his recovery. If healthy, a vet with an expiring contract will have some value.

I'm open to seeing if he is still capable of competing, and if yes keep him as a vet/possible future trade sweetener. If not, we can waive him.

PHX and their miracle medical staff threw him in to us for salary dump purposes. He's finished.

So it seems conflicting - if he moved to Phoenix for training purposes, it sounds like he's going to play. A few other comments people are saying he's done, but is that just based on last year's performance or have you read something that gives us a better insight?

I think his roster spot would be better served for taking a gamble on developing one of the younger players. It's not really a comparable situation to last season with Butler and Prince since there is actual talent on the roster at that position now. Those two were the talent at that position last year, as sad as that sounds.

Our roster is nothing but young talent. They need guidance on the floor. The Butler role of last season that SVG mentioned repeatedly this offseason as something he covets.

They're saying "he's done" in the sense that he doesn't provide any reliable on-court production any longer. He'll still report to camp and pick up his paycheck.

The Butler role also involved someone that was consistently playing a decent chunk of minutes. I think Van Gundy said something to that effect last offseason as well. Granger isn't cracking the rotation healthy or not. Anthony will probably be brought back too as well so adding him to Tolliver, and Ilyasova is fine for an overall veteran presence in my opinion. This is undoubtedly Jackson's team now too so he will have a big role in leadership/guidance going forward.

I'd bring him into camp rather than waive him on the 9th/10th when the trade is official, but I don't have any faith that he can play at a level worth keeping him around over Reggie Bullock(Or Adonis Thomas). I think if we do waive him he'll probably get picked up by another team on a flyer - somebody who is capped out and desperate for depth sorta deal. Nothing hurt by seeing him in camp unless Stan has zero plans for him irregardless and cuts him now to do him a solid so he can try and catch on with another team (and near double his money made while at it).

News: Granger was traded from the Suns to the Pistons on Thursday, Yahoo! Sports reports. Marcus Morris and Reggie Bullock were also sent to the Pistons, and the Suns received a second-round pick and cap space in return.

Impact: Granger's salary is locked in for the 2015-16 season, and while the Pistons would love to have a healthy Granger from the last decade, they failed to acquire a time-traveling DeLorean in the deal, so the most likely outcome with Granger is that he'll twiddle his fingers on the Pistons' bench while perpetually rehabbing his knees until the Pistons decide to add him to another trade or outright waive him and eat the cap hit. Suffice to stay, it's a pipe dream to expect consistent fantasy value from Granger at this point in his career.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't cut. I just can't see us having him take up a roster spot over someone young like hilliard or bullock.
