CLE picked up Mo Williams, too -- for more than the league minimum. He's not the player he used to be, but that's still more payroll for Gilbert to deal with.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

At this point they almost have to just waive Haywood. Using him in a trade is going to just be too expensive.

The longer this offseason goes on the more foolish the Oubre selection over Porter is looking.

Also, Korver leads the team in minutes and he'll turn 35 before the season ends. He takes really good care of himself, but typically, players that age get hurt. How will they fare if they have to go extended lengths of time without Korver, and with the non-shooting Thabo replacing Carroll? (I think they'll have to renounce Jenkins, too.)

Posted about this is the other FA thread. Milsap isn't Carol on the perimeter but I like moving Horford to the 4. They should be tough in the playoffs.

Thats the question that still needs answered.

Hard to account for numbers when a player is on a terrible team. We saw that on past Wizards teams. We know what that looks like.

He does look the part of a NBA player though. We should have a better picture after this year.

I liked him as our pick for that draft. So I'm not shocked he looks like a viable prospect.

Depends on your philosophy.

If you believe in drafting to fill a need well yeah, you're probably a Portis guy.

Now on the other hand, if you believe in the most talent/upside philosophy Oubre was the right pick.

Personally, I believe in the latter.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I don't think they care. Owner is a multi billionaire. A 50/60M tax bill one year isn't doing to hurt him while a title will have him changing his undies.

True - but on the other hand - if you are looking out 3 years then maybe not so much, only time will tell.

As of now, I am just getting used to the Gortat/Gooden + Nene/Humphries duos...

Just heard a 220M number put on the estimated CLE salary and lux tax for the year.

110M in Lux Tax

This is with Tristan Thompson and Joe Johnson

I had it at 280 last night if they signed Thompson at 15 million, traded Varejao and Haywood for Johnson, and signed a player with the taxpayer MLE, and signed LeBron to a max deal. The Johnson trade is totally unrealistic. There is no way they can afford that much tax.

What's really gonna suck is paying $200M+ in luxury tax and then losing the championship to San Antonio!

Gilbert is worth about 5 billion. Other than the Blazers and Paul Allen, he's the wealthiest owner I believe. If he really wants a title, he'll spend wildly for one year.

Steinbrenner used to spend 120 million in salary 15 years ago........these aren't huge expenses when you factor in profits, capital and long-term marketing exposure.

Yeah but billionaires didn't become billionaires by recklessly spending money.

Their revenue was up 67 million last year with James back (to 216 million reported), it's not that reckless. If they pay 80 million tax, and win the title? He'll likely only be negative 15-20 million. That will quickly be recouped next year, and it's a one year write off. Instead of a 40-60 million profit they write it down to 20-40.

It's not a horrible move.

They made 60 million last year, it's not that reckless. If they pay 80 million tax, and win the title? He'll likely only be negative 20 million. That will quickly be recouped next year, and it's a one year write off. Instead of a 40-60 million profit they write it down to 20-40.

Well, I don't see Cleveland winning it anyway. A lot would have to go wrong w/the West team, injuries etc. The West is just too stacked man.

Does anyone know what their projected total salaries are in 2016 and beyond? I have to think they're above the tax for 2016 making it a bit more difficult to spend.
