I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
I think this could be a blessing in disguise because DeAndre's departure makes it impossible for us to compete next year.
My hope is that this move takes Doc's bullets from him. Instead of Doc trying to force us into being a contender with **** trades and MLE offers, he can finally focus on drafting and developing (and playing) young players.
Keys:
2016 draft and getting back into the 2017 draft.
Extending CPs career with versatile defensive wings
Extending Blake and CP on team friendly deals.
then….
LAST
2016 FA…because who is going to come to a team with no valuable picks and for one year of Blake and CP? We may find our C here. Maybe in the draft. Who knows?
It's not an ideal situation but we will be able to solve our depth and Center issue instead of just maxing out a Center and using the MLE to build depth.

DJ bolting might not feel great, but we needed to make a change one way or another, so this might as well be the start. Unfortunately, I have zero confidence in Doc as a capable rebuilder. If he wants any ounce of cred, then we need to somehow get our hands on a decent center, and for the love of Jesus, send Jamal on his merry way.

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
Wish I could see the bright side of all this but I just can't, I don't know how I'm gonna bring myself to watch the team next year. Everything that could have gone wrong in the last year went even worse, except the Spurs series. I guess we'll have that to cling to, as the finest moment in Clippers history.
Only thing I have hope for now, is that Doc gets fired soon, and we are able to get a proper basketball executive that is able to rebuild this team in a few years. Like Oshley is doing in Portland. F*ck, that just pisses me off even more, we were right on track to do really big things when he was here! I just don't see a realistic way Paul and Blake agree to stay on this team two years from now, why would they.

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
we can always tank next year.
come back with a stud in the draft.
that way both of them will probably re-sign here.

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
Or Doc will just trade more future draft picks for mediocre quick fixes...
Hard to tank with CP and Blake on your team, and even with a good draft pick, the player might need a season or two to become a high impact player, not necessarily going to get an Anthony Davis type, especially again since tanking is quite hard with CP and Blake and those kind of guys are picked in the top 3 usually.
They can go to more win ready situations. Blake to OKC, maybe CP could somehow get to a team like San Antonio as Parker ages, or for example go back to New Orleans to play with Davis.

if you forcefully tank with cp3 on your team, he will riot and never come back. when the cap opens up in the next couple years this team will need to show that it is highly competitive, otherwise both cp3 and blake can opt for the same money in better situations.

to me, that means they have to be extended now so that next offseason other free agents will want to come here.
I doubt anybody will come here next offseason if they aren't extended.

No way they take extensions without any guarantee of the right supporting casts or free agents, not to mention that the cap will increase and their salary amounts will increase if they wait

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
if Davis can sign for 5/145 this year, why can't they be extended now just at an expensive number?

I believe that extension is to begin after the new caps come in to play in 2016, and since there is no exact figures available and CP and Blake's deal won't end for some time after the actual figures come out, it would not be in their best business interest to jump to an extension that may undersell themselves. meanwhile, Davis gets to be the "richest contract" player right now when he is still playing out his rookie deal and is committed to staying in NOLA.
ehhhhh f it.

Davis will be a restricted FA, he can't really leave New Orleans anyways, unless he wants to take the QO next year and miss out on a year of high salary. His extension is similar to the one Blake had back in the day. Players in Paul and Blake's situation don't regularly sign extensions.

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
I've been ready to move on and embrace our new Center, but I'm still waiting for the Clippers front-office to give me a new Center to embrace. As of now, we're stuck in a holding-pattern...which is a constant & painful reminder of what was lost.
I remember when Howard left the Lakers, Kobe & Pau (and other Lakers) were all over social media rallying the Laker-faithful...reassuring them 'everything will be okay'. Of course it was just rhetoric, but at least their fans knew they were pissed and motivated to play harder than ever.
I can't find CP3 or Blake (or Doc or Redick or Crawford or Ballmer or anybody that matters)...are these guys all curled-up in a corner somewhere, still recovering from shock? Are they pissed? Relieved? Indifferent? I'm like, guys, he's not on our team anymore...you can tell us how you really feel about him now...but there's been nothing.
So how can I get over it if it seems like they haven't gotten over it?

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
I was over it the next day, and now just looking forward to seeing what we can do with the situation we are in.
I'm not worried about Blake and Chris at all right now. We will have cap room next season to sign a big FA, if we succeed then we will be better off besides a 'lost season' for 2015-16. We sign a big FA, and Blake and Chris will be fine.
Given that DJ is gone, I'm looking forward to seeing just what we CAN do in 2015-16 to try to make up for the loss as much as possible, and what adjustment we can make to not only our roster but game strategies. The Bulls went to the WCF the year after Michael Jordan's first retirement. We may be able to overachieve and say get to the 2nd round again. Everyone wants more, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the journey.

These guys talk. If say Kevin Durant was seriously interested in playing with BG and Chris in LA, you don't think BG and Chris wouldn't want to stay? We'd be a powerhouse team in a major market.
It's rare that you'll have a big FA join an existing playoff team, and have everyone's contracts line up.

if they were already in FA limbo the sure i can understand people not wanting to gamble on signing.
but with 1-2 years left, it's quite worthy. plenty of guys would jump at the chance.

Anyone talking about tanking is way overreacting right now. Had we lost BG or CP3, okay then maybe you start looking at all the possible scenarios. But most of the posters in the Clipper board have had a love/hate relationship with DJ anyway, so not sure why there's so much angst over him leaving.
I hoped he would stay, but we didn't lose a member of our 'Big 3'. We lost the most important supporting cast member to our 'Big 2'.

Re: I'm Over it: The Bright Side and the Future
It's not about the value of DJ as a player, it's that he was one of the only 4 starter level players we had. Now we have Pierce who won't crack 30MPG, and three more starting-level players. Where the hell do you expect to go with three and a half players for a whole season?? Who do you expect to convince to come here after that??
