McGee is almost a must take chance just for the upside.

I'd also try to sign 2 of these guys.

Cole Aldridge
Dalembert
Jeff Whithy (RFA)

Not sure what the hold up is on pulling the trigger on Javell at this point. I would want some steady insurance behind him like Dalembert or Aldridge though. That's about all you can really hope for with the amount of money is a guy like Dalembert would sign at minimum and be insurance. I'd trust him more than Emeka at this point and I think Emeka would command more or not bother coming back.

dalembert would be a great signing and we need mcgee. I dont know if we can actually get j smith. Also just let DJ go we may be better and a faster team without him and its sad to go back after him unless we just convince him to do a sign and trade and get some cap space.

So that was a fun adventure right? But what now? I'm not sure we are better than the spurs with their massive upgrades, and that's who we really need to be figuring out how to beat. But if pierce can give us another similar season and lance can play like he's supposed to, i can see our gap being fairly close. DJ actually being able to drop some low post moves to exploit the inevitable wave of small ball teams (and golden state when they want to defend him with draymond) will be a huge thing for us, if they let him. DJ could also potentially grow from pretty good defender to elite as well. And you know blake is going to come back as either an elite defender or 3 point shooter.

But we can't bank on that. This offseason is still not over. We 100% need to get rid of crawford. For obvious reasons he is awful, but now with pierce in the fold (and dj perhaps taking more shots) then crawford is an even worse part of the team. Plus we still need a backup 4/5, unless branden dawson is gonna average 14/11 in the NBA in his rookie year.

What are our best moves now? Who's left that can help us? Can we still do the haywood trade and get that nice expiring back?

So Gerald Green signed for the min with Miami. Why did we get Wes Johnson over him again?

So what do we have left that we can use for a back up big and pg? Just a possible Crawford trade and vet minimums?

yes. i don't know if dj's new contract will mess us up with any future haywood trade, but if not then there would be that too.

so to recap:

jamal as a chip
veteran minimums
early bird rights up to 3.1M on austin rivers

and that's it. we can have a spectacular offseason if we offload jamal for a decent big. some miami fans have posted here and on T/T about trading shabazz napier/chris andersen for jamal which would make this offseason A++++ for us. doubt it happens but it'd be awesome.

Green can play SG behind Wade and will play more overall than he would have here.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Correct, plus Baby's non-bird rights and the $3.1 mil we can offer Rivers.

A Crawford deal will get done. There is a reason he wasnt invited to the meeting last night, despite being really close to DJ.

yeah, he wants to get paid. and i would do the same thing if i were him too, probably.

he'll get lots of court time in a city with some of best nightlife around, be reasonable competitive, and the gates to heaven (money) will be wide open when every team in the league gets an extra 20M+ or so to burn.

for someone who had a pretty rough go of it in his first several years in the NBA, he's really got a great opportunity to redo his career that most other retreads don't get.

Dont see that happening, because we would have to now include Wilcox to make the trade work or swap Redick in for Crawford.

I would look at PGs for the minimum and then a 4th big. One would assume RIvers is targeting a F/C for Crawford as we still need a 3rd big. Even someone that can slide from SF to PF would work.

Two I would look at:

Luke Ridnour (just waived)
Donald Sloan

I think a couple of guys from the summer league team will make it. I like wolters, and he has experience, plus dawson looks like he can play. trade Austin and jamal for a big and the team looks good.

i was kind of thinking about ridnour. i just hate the fact that he can't defend. i feel like i'd rather just have rivers play the backup 1 and defend PG's and let lance play the backup 2 while handling the ball. but for a 3rd stringer i'd take ridnour, for sure.

honestly i would rather line our backup units with some of these prospects and let them cut their teeth throughout the season. the only way to get guys like dawson, and any other young dudes up to speed is to actually play them a bit. i like the veteran approach most teams take with buyouts midseason, but ONLY if they can contribute. if we get perkins/tayshaun/vince etc. they will just bog us down in the worst way like hedo did.

and unlike last year where there were a slew of ring chasing vets who might have helped, this next year i don't see anyone like that on the horizon. ray allen is done. JO is done. amare/prince/perkins/AK, all non factors, all done. if there's someone out there who will potentially be cut and can potentially help us, yeah bring them on but i can't think of any. i'd rather just let dawson learn how to be an energy/tony allen power forward and sign a center with some potential so he can learn to give us decent minutes towards the end of the season.

we'll need every tool at our disposal available come playoff time if we want to keep up with gs/sa/okc/memphis.

Nice s/o, Sloan and Ridnour would be good pick ups. As would Nelson if he were to take a paycut to come. Will Bynum or Schved would be ok. Seraphin and Hill will get more than the minimum, but I'd still like McGee as a back up C. I'd be ok with Mbah A Moute to round up the roster, as would be if we were to bring Grover back.

I think we should now be open to trade a 2019-to-2022 1st round pick, as long as we make sure it never turns into a top 10 pick. Dangle it around with Crawford and the unguaranteed contracts and maybe we can get something of note like Chandler or Patterson.

Big Baby should be back, and I hope they at least think of giving him the $5M unguaranteed contract to use as a trade chip later.
