Re: Clippers lobbying to change DeAndre Jordan's decision, CP3 & Co. to meet with DJ later today
Clippers as an organization needed to let this one go, as hard as that is to do. I understand the desire to try and win him back at all costs but going back and trying to sway him back to LA is sorta a slap in the face to the Mavs and in turn the entire free agent process. I guarantee other GM's around the league just lost even more respect for the Clipper franchise. Whatever they had left.
Clippers and Deandre just put a HUGE target on their backs.
As a Laker fan, this better not change things with Indiana and Hibbert.

Remember to never forget context, this is why people are always harping on stats.richboy wrote:clippertown wrote:Mr B wrote:Funny how most Clippers fans here now think that DJ is great and is a "Franchise player" when you were all singing a different turn just a few hours ago.
Most Clipper fans see DJ for what he is. The thing is that the Clippers have had DJ so long, we have actually designed our entire offense and defense around covering up his deficiencies and maximizing whatever we can get from him offensively. Dallas may be hurt from this betrayal, but the Clippers had much more to lose. DJ is a manufactured talent that we have developed from a piece of coal. He may not be a diamond, but beaten down Clipper fans deserve to see the DJ experiment seen through till the end.
This is the reason why I hear DJ left. He tired of being thought of as a second round pick developed by the Clippers. I know they like to take credit for Deandre but he was one of the best HS players in the nation. He grew up being compared to Dwight Howard. He should never have fallen to the 2nd round.
Big men's value is in there ability to defend. Not sure what the Clippers manufactured. The Clippers suck when Deandre isn't in the game. Deandre has one of the best plus minus in the league. They are terrible on offense when Deandre isn't in the game. 16 less points per 100 when he isn't in the game. Also worst on defense. He is maybe the best role big in the entire league. Anthony Davis might argue but Deandre is pretty awesome in that role himself. I think the best spot for Deandre is in LA but I can understand his frustration. This idea that he was created by Doc Rivers. If that is the case then why would you want to return to a place that is the thought process.
DJ played 2819 minutes last season. 2555 of those minutes were with Chris Paul on the floor, that's 90% of his minutes. Redick was on the floor for another 75% of his minutes. So you have to realize that all you're saying by "the Clippers 'suck' when DJ isn't in the game" is that the Clippers aren't that good when their starters / hybrid starter based lineups aren't playing. The lineups in which he played with Rivers (-6.4 net pts/100) and Farmar (-14.5 net pts/100) were horrible on offense and defense compared to +15 net pts/100 with CP and +19.2 net pts/100 with the full starting lineup.
Defense is more true because he's the only shot blocker / rim protector that got minutes on the team, and the team only had two total, second being Udoh. That is an issue mainly related to depth and poor team building, Doc Rivers' staple the last two seasons. When your backup is Spencer Hawes chasing guards around while hedging on pick and rolls, then yea, the defense is going to have quite a drop in comparison, more so than with a more suitable guy when it comes to defense (eg: Odom vs DJ in 12-13). Doc might have been the only person that actually thought Spencer Hawes could play that way or that it was not integral to pair Hawes with a more rebound / defend / block shot type PF, but instead a front-court of Hedo/Davis/Hawes was logical.

Is this for real?

DeAndre, just go to Dallas man.

Let me change my question - what realistic things could Dallas have done...?
TBH, if he does sign with the Clippers, there's very little Dallas could've done. I think he wanted to be a Clipper from the very beginning but didn't want to stay unless he felt wanted. He got his wish today. Sounds pathetic but DJ is not the most mature guy in the world. Clipper fans have known this for 7 years now.
The bold was my point. Clippertown is trying to come up with some feeble attempt to pin this on Dallas.
E-Balla has said this a few times - DJ is a mental midget...which he is. An attention whore too with an ego if he really thinks he can be a top option on a team, but a mental midget nonetheless.
Nah but really I feel bad for Dallas right now. Dallas is Conan, LA is Leno, and DeAndre is NBC.

Every WC fan is cheering right now.
Honestly...how delusional is Jordan about his offensive prowess? Even if he had reliable go to moves and was an offensive threat, teams would just foul him and send him to the line

They should change the rule to make it so verbal agreements are binding and cannot be changed unless both sides want to change it to a sign & trade. Have the owners/gm record the verbal agreements and there's no problem anymore I would think. Might be more technical stuff to make that impossible.
or when Free Agency starts you should be able to sign them.. It is ridiculous you could even go back on an agreement like that, This screws the mavs over big time, what can they even do with their new found cap space? Cuban even said that if it was not for DJ and WEs they might of tanked or what not, they can't just undue that now..

Like I said before, league-wide ramifications could lead to a court case and/or the rules being changed about what is allowed to go on during the moratorium.

Not to be a dick, but really? What does Hibbert matter to the Lakers? 3 more wins to get them to 28 on the year? You should hope Hibbert goes back to Indiana so the Lakers can get the top pick, instead of #3.

I hope he does meet with the Mavs and tells them face to face that he made a mistake and his heart is really with the Clippers. It's really the least he could do.
And really he should have called Cuban/Donnie as soon as he started having doubts and saying hey I'm considering staying with the Clippers. But at least be a man about it now.

I don't think you guys have anything to worry about, Bird has always had a lot of integrity. Celtics were going to let him sign a contract and retire and basically let him walk off into the sun set with extra cash without playing any of the contract and he turned them down because he didn't think he earned it by not playing the extra years.

Hey, I am a hardcore pistons fan, so I understand, but as far as I remember, I never actually compared the two, or made any other evaluation. I just simple stated that players, who focus on rebounding and defense, are important pieces, by invoking Ben wallace, as a comparitive piece.Knickstape1214 wrote:zeebneeb wrote:Who is? I agree that saying you want to get rid of someone because he can only defend / rebound is asinine, but comparing him to Wallace is just the same (albeit at a smaller amount).
