If Deandre called them first, what do you expect the Clips to do? Not try to win him back? This is a competition, you do everything you can to win as long as its within the rules. I think people need to separate franchise player from game changer. Franchise player = star / someone you can build around. I have not seen any Clipper fan say that he is a franchise player. However, I think it is irrefutable that he is a game changer (for his team - rebounding / blocking shots / defense, although he still needs work there; for the opposing team - FTs/killed possession by making DJ shoot FTs).

Any organization in this position would hear Jordan out and then schedule a meeting if the deal hadn't actually been finalized yet. There is no contract between DJ and Dallas, currently, according to the CBA.
