You guys are getting a good one. He'll be great backing up Kemba and can also play some 2-guard. He never complained and played his a$$ off. Wish we still had him but we here in LA are going through some dysfunctional times.

This makes me even more desperately want us to get rid of Al and play small most of the game. Start the 1st and 3rd quarters with Kemba, Batum, MKG, Cody, Frank and then go small with some variation of Kemb, Lin/Lamb, MKG, Batum, Frank/Cody/Hawes. There is no reason for us to continue slowing down our athletes for a guy whos lazy and has never won anything.

Hello everyone, Lin fan here, great to see all this positivity!

Was pretty disappointed he didn't go to Dallas where he'll have the opportunity to be the starter on a very good team, to play with his buddy Parsons and to play for one of the best coaches in Rick. But after thinking about it a bit, I figure it's a good move in that, it will be a much more drastic change of scenario, going from the wild wild west to the east, to a small market, to a growing team that didn't make the playoffs last year.

He will be playing for a coach that he has mutual understanding with, an owner he admires, a GM he shares certain similarities. He will have the opportunity to lay low and grow in small steps instead of being thrown into the fire with spotlights shining again. He can finally shed the Linsanity saga and the big contract that came with it and slowly build up his game at his own pace, with much lower expectation with a smaller contract.

Hopefully he will have his problems solved, weaknesses overcome and become a two way player capable of playing both guard spots in two years - no more disappointments, ready to shine and handle a bigger contract!

Cheers!

PS* OTOH, at least his 37% from three will help this team! 2 mil would definitely be too low, he was gunning for 17/7 and 50/40/90 for stretches! Still has potential; MLE would be about right IMO.

Well for some throw back let's watch this Harvard (Lin) vs UConn ( Kemba) youtube

Anyway, Lin's a solid rotation player at worse, so that obviously helps, he's much less of a one man offense than Kemba / Mo, but can play well within a system that fits his strength and weakness.

At worst, your getting a guy who would have been the best shooter on the Hornets last year in terms of guys that actually threw up 3s in volume. (though that says more about the Hornet's awful shooting.)

But yeah, his fit with a Al Jefferson / Kemba Walker centered team is very strange. the Hornets did run a little bit of a semi - PnR last year but it was never a big thing, though it could easily be due to the lack of shooters . but that problem still exist to some degree.

I guess mayyybe one of the idea is that the Hornets play two very different lineups , like Kemba / MKG / Batum / Zeller / Jefferson as starting lineup then completely switch it up with Lin / Lamb / Marvin / Frank Kamisky + one of Kemba / Batum / Zeller as the second lineup

Flip Murray wrote:this guy is the anti-Lance. He's going to be a great player to have in the locker room and he'll accept his role.

Anti Lance is probably the best way to describe it, he's not the same ceiling but certainly the floor is much higher, (granted, that says more about Lance's team killing floor than anything else.)

Nice. Top of my list guy, and:

Jeremy Lin announced just hours before NBA players can sign contracts that he will join the Charlotte Hornets. A source confirmed to ESPN.com that the contract is for Charlotte’s biannual exception — two years and $4.3 million. – via ESPN.com

I was holding off as there were reports of MLE, but if this is really two years at 4.3 mil total, wow, just wow. Would love it if that is two years fixed, but my guess is that Lin negotiated a second year player option so that he can opt into the FA money grab then. Still not 100% clear if it's 4.3 per, or? Blackout?

Steal pick up

Lin

The Good

60%of his shots are either at the rim(63%) or 3pt(37%)

Top 20 p&r handler

Avg defender

Makes scrubs look decent

Elite first step

Good Shot blocker for a PG

Gets to the FT line at ease

Big time 4th Quarter player

Past 2 years, spot up 3pt (38%)

The Bad

Below avg handles

Bad mid range shooter (33%)

Still TO prone, TOs are down because the ball isn't in his hands as much, but TOV is still top 5(bad)

Bad lateral quickness

Regressed floater (hasn't used it since NY)

The Unknown

Confidence - lacks it, since leaving NY he's always looking over his shoulder for his replacement (Beverly, Price), guys coaches like better, but aren't better players

Run an offense - never really got to be a PG in Houston or LA

The Lin hornets want

Post all star, when Scott stopped caring and let him play his game

Lin- 22 games 14/4.5 /2.0 TOs in 26 minutes per game

I was watching his highlights from last year and even in that video it looked like he was getting no respect from his team mates when he was trying to direct them. I remember the same while on the Rockets when trying to direct Harden also.

With the system players the hornets have and the smaller egos on the team, I think Lin has the opportunity to play to all his strengths. PnR all day.
The hornets have desperately needed a better pick and roll/pop point guard, which is a Kemba weakness. Kaminsky, Zeller and Hawes will all benefit from Lin on that second unit too. Every player on that second unit can shoot the three too, so there is going to be loads of space for him to work.

Good to see some positives about Jeremy Lin. I am a die hard UCONN fan and I live about 15 mins where Lin grew up. I have been following Kemba and gang along with Jeremy for a long long time.

There are a ton of misconceptions about Jeremy. The best article that really break down his game is here:

http://www.jlinportal.com/why-jeremy-lin-will-be-a-good-nba-player-whichever-team-he-lands/

Jlin is better athlete than what people give him credit for:

http://thebamboxscore.com/2012/02/29/more-linsights/

Based on the signings, I really think Jeremy would get around $10M per year. The fact he signed so little probably because he signed 1 year with 2nd year as a player option. Hornets got a steal. However, I think he will get close to 30 mins a game. Jeremy can easily be a 16 points 8 assists kind of player night in and night out. His defense is very underrated.

Jeremy needs to play with a big man that can PnR. I am guessing it will be Frank the Tank. I think they will be a good duo. Al Jefferson is not a PnR kind of big man so he is probably better off play with Kemba. Jeremy can easily be the starting PG or be the starting 2G for this team.

Another super underrated player is Jeremy Lamb. He never got his chance with OKC. Hopefully, he will get a chance to play some meaningful minutes with Lin and Kemba. Jeremy Lamb was a great shooter for UCONN. Also, both landed in Houston at the same time but Lamb was traded quickly to OKC in that Harden deal.

My only hope is both will be playing in the right system that will play to their strengths.

Wow, what a steal!!!
I was ecstatic when I learned we signed him, but for 4M over 2 years it's an absolute bargain! Even at 4M/year I'd be extremely happy, what a great signing.
Lin has his flaws but as a backup PG you don't get much better, plus he's a player I've always really liked, I'm thrilled to have him here, especially since he seems to be pretty excited about playing in Charlotte.

Knight Vs Felton
Felton Vs Augustin
Augustin Vs Kemba
Kemba Vs Lin

Will this point guard debate never end?

And I bet there are a hell of a lot more Lin fans than there are UConn fans.

This is going to be........awesome?

I'm absolutely happy with this signing. I was furious at draft night, I said a lot sht about the FO, but this summer gets better. I hated Kaminsky over Winslow, I was meh with the Lance trade for Hawes, hated that we let Biz go, but I loved the Batum trade even with Vonleh in it, the Lamb trade was also a smart move (we'll see what can he do for the team), and now this hiper-steal of Lin is also fantastic. If we'd have Biz over Marvin, or we could snatch a half-decent rim protector, I'd be so happy.

Can't see this singing as being great news for Lamb.

I can see Lin playing a 6th man role not only playing back up PG but playing some back up SG as well.

We really need to phone up the Mavs. Cuban doesn't have any options and he hates to lose. Al makes them better.

It's worse for PJ, Daniels, Brian Roberts and Marvin.

Clifford can play Lamb at SG and run small ball lineups that push Batum to SF, MKG to PF and Zeller/Kaminsky/Hawes to center.

Kemba or Jeremy could split time running those lineups.

If both Kemba + Jeremy are paired, Lamb could go to SF and Batum to PF and MKG to the bench.

This system doesn't fit Al at all.

I think they will give Al an opportunity to adapt but I suspect he won't make it through the season.

This team has no use for:

Roberts
PJ
Daniels
Marvin
Al

Last season that could have been the starting lineup at times.
